McNair Elementary Principal Selection Process

FCPS

On behalf of Rebecca G. Baenig, Region 5 Assistant Superintendent

Dear McNair Elementary School Staff, Parents, and Community,

As you are aware, your principal, Ms. Merrell Dade, has been offered and accepted the position of Director, School Support PreK-6, in the Office of School Support effective July 5, 2023.  We are so appreciative of Ms. Merrell Dade’s 3 years of dedicated service to McNair and are excited that she will continue to serve Fairfax County Public Schools in her new role.

We will begin the search for your next principal in the coming weeks.  An important step in this procedure is to inform staff and parents about the principal selection process. Therefore, all staff and parents are invited to attend a virtual informational meeting on Monday, May 1, 2023, at 5:30 PM.  You can access the meeting via Zoom at this link:

Join the Meeting

The McNair Principal Advisory panel will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.  If you are interested in serving as a panelist, please submit your information by the close of business on May 10, 2023, using this form.  Participants must be available in person from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the day of the panel, Tuesday, May 23, 2023.  The Region Leadership Team will review all submissions and select staff and community members to serve as either panelists or alternates for these in-person interviews. The Department of Human Resources will contact the individuals who are selected to serve in this capacity.

Another critical component to the process is your written input. We invite you to offer your individual, written input (preferably via email) regarding the skills, experience, and leadership characteristics needed for McNair Elementary School.  Your input might also address any challenges or issues that a new principal will need to address. Input is confidential and will not be discussed at the meeting. We welcome your input now, upon receipt of this letter, and are hopeful that many of you will share your thoughts. Below you will see suggestions for input and how you would submit it to the Department of Human Resources (HRPrincipalPool@fcps.edu) by Wednesday, May 10, 2023

I look forward to working closely with the McNair staff, parents, and community members during the principal selection process. Thank you for your support.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me

Sincerely,

Ms. Rebecca Baenig

Assistant Superintendent, Region 5
