Principal's Message

cel

Hello Shrevewood Families,

This was a busy week that included lots of student smiles and joy. All of our students had lots of fun during the Fizz, Pop, Boom assembly with the Science Guys, and our kindergarten and first grade students engaged virtually with author, David Shannon.

Thank you so much to all of you who came to our Celebration of Learning on Tuesday! We are so proud of the growth of all of our students, and it was great to see them presenting the evidence of their learning to their families. Take a minute to check out some of the highlights from the night by watching this video.

As the month of April comes to a close, we want to take the chance to recognize all of our military families. April is the Month of the Military Child, and we are proud that we have many military families that are a part of our Shrevewood community. Thank you and your families for your service!

Have a wonderful weekend and we hope to see you tonight at Bingo Night!

Sincerely,

Joshua DeSmyter, Principal

Katie Vandawalker, Assistant Principal

SOL Testing Begins Tuesday

All students will need their laptops and chargers at school with them for SOL testing. Classes will set up their testing space for the SOL the day before testing, so please check with your student to make sure they have their laptop and charger in their backpack the day before testing. Your child should get a good night of sleep the night before the test. If you have any questions about SOL testing, please email Katie Vandawalker (kmvandawalke@fcps.edu).

Staff Appreciation Week: May 1-5, 2023

The PTA is planning events and activities to celebrate and thank our SWES staff during this year’s Staff Appreciation Week. Please join us in highlighting our staff!

Monday, May 1: Staff Shoutouts! Tell us what you appreciate about SWES staff members and add to the bulletin board in the lobby. Forms will be in Thursday folders and by the bulletin board!

Tuesday, May 2: Bring in a book! Fill those classroom libraries with new and gently used books. Some teachers have online wish lists, or you can bring in a book of your choosing.

Wednesday, May 3: Wear Your Teacher’s Favorite Color! Ask your room parent or teacher for their favorite color and have your student wear that color.

Thursday, May 4: Staff Favorites Day Ask your room parent or a staff member what they love and bring in their favorite snack/flower/baked good, etc. Don’t forget specialists and other staff members!

Friday, May 5: Handwritten Note/Card Families bring in handwritten notes or cards to end the week on a positive “note!”

Please visit the PTA website to volunteer in support of PTA-sponsored activities during Staff Appreciation Week.

Next week, our Positivity Project lessons during Morning Meeting will be focusing on the character strength of EnthusiasmEnthusiasm means you approach life with excitement and energy, and you energize people around you.

Questions that you can discuss with your child include:

  • How is enthusiasm contagious?
  • Is it okay to not be enthusiastic all of the time?
  • What are some jobs or roles where enthusiasm is important?

"Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you."

-Oprah Winfrey
