April 25, 2023
My Dearest Sleepy Hollow Family,
We hope this newsletter finds you in the best of health and in great spirits. We have a fun-filled week that includes our Annual Book Fair and International Night. Please find time to join us. We’d love to see you!
Did you know that Secretaries’ Day takes place every Wednesday in the last week of April to honor the hard work of secretaries who have long been under-appreciated? This year, it takes place on April 26, 2023. This day has been called many names over the years, to include Administrative Assistants’ Day, and it occurs during Administrative Professionals’ Week. It recognizes secretaries/office assistants for all the hard work they perform. There are many ways to celebrate and honor these hardworking individuals that are the gatekeepers to our schools and businesses, but the most important one is simply saying, “Thank you!” Please join me in saluting our Sleepy Hollow “Secretarial Staff” – Karla Lobo Ana Maria Menendez, Nannie Espinoza, and Lizbeth Coto. We also honor Robin Kline (Library Assistant), Iva Plazas (Family Liaison) and Evelyn Galeano (School Health Assistant) who support the day-to-day operation of our school.
Wishing you a week filled with Amazing Grace, Kindness, and Gratitude.
~Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. Thankfulness may consist merely of words. Gratitude is shown in acts.~
All the best, Mattie S. Fallen, Principal

News from the Library
Our book fair is underway and it looks great! Huge thanks to the volunteers who set the fair up on Thursday as well as all who are coming in during this week to assist the students – your help is what makes the fair a success! We look forward to seeing families visit the fair on Tuesday evening until 8:00. Plus, when you’re heading to the school on Thursday for International night, arrive early and visit the fair until 6:30! Wow, so much fun at the fair! Here’s a quick follow-up to our Battle of the Books last week – all 8 teams did an AMAZING job! They really knew their books and did so well at collaborating with their teams. The array of food at the celebration was amazing – thank you PTA for your support and thanks to all the families who sent treats in. Springtime in the library is full of fun!
Family Life Education Instructional Program Information
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) offers a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through twelfth. Instruction is seen as a partnership between parents and guardians, the school, and the community to support learning essential for the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.
Parents/guardians may choose to exclude their child from all or part of the Family Life Education program. Students who are excluded receive age-appropriate, non-punitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices. If you wish to exclude your child from all or part of FLE for this school year, opt-out forms will be included in your child's back-to-school/orientation packages and are available online for. Complete the opt-out form and return it to your child's school prior to Family Life Education instruction.
Detailed descriptions of the grade-level program are available online at Elementary (K-6). FLE grade-level specific lessons and the media for which FCPS has streaming rights are available to parents online at Schoology. Parents/guardians log in to Schoology with the same username and password as their Student Information System (SIS) parent account. Grade-level specific lessons are also available at the Fairfax City Regional Library (this location has no means). Grade-level specific lessons and media that are not streamed online are available for review in your child's school library. Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.
Questions about the program can be addressed at your child's school or by contacting Instructional Services at 571-423-4550 or fle@fcps.edu
