Letter from the Principal

Dear Wakefield Forest Families,

We have had an exciting few weeks since Spring Break at Wakefield Forest ES. This week we hosted our level IV AAP Family Orientation, Kindergarten Orientation and the second grade BUGZ performance. It feels so good to welcome so many families into the building.

We currently are on track with the renovation. We expect the addition, cafeteria, office and front entryway to be completed August 2023. As we get closer to the start of school, we will share opportunities to see the new spaces prior to the start of school. Our Open House is scheduled for the morning of August 18, 2023.

The fourth quarter brings many fun events and activities for students and families. We are planning for our grad walk (Woodson seniors visiting WFES) on June 5th, Musical Theater Performance of Annie June 7th and 8th in the evening, Field Day June 13th and sixth grade promotion on June 15th

Thank you.

Sharyn Prindle

Principal

Eid al-Fitr

eid

Family Input Form SY 2023-24

Developing class assignments each year is a complex process. School administration, classroom teachers, counselors, special education staff and specialists all have the opportunity to provide feedback on class groupings.

If you have feedback that you would like for us to consider, please add it to this Family Input Form no later than May 12, 2023. Late submissions will not be accepted. We will consider all feedback provided, but we are not always able to fulfill requests.

We respectfully ask that you do not request particular teachers. It is unfair to give special consideration to some families when it would be impossible to grant requests from all families. Please be aware that grade level assignments for staff sometimes change, due to late enrollments or other changes.  Staff assignments are determined at the end of the summer.

BUGZ - Second Grade Musical

Mrs. Waggoner led students in an awesome musical performance for our families this week! Our second graders were amazing!

If your student is interested in attending, please return the  permission form back to your student’s teacher by April 25th to Ms. Brown in the STEAM lab.

Nominate 2023 Teacher of the Year

Northern VirginiaMagazine is extending its deadline to submit nominations for our Teacher of the Year 2023 to Sunday, April 23. This prestigious annual award recognizes the extraordinary educators in our region.

In order to make sure the best teachers within Fairfax County Public Schools are nominated, the staff at Northern VirginiaMagazine wants to make sure your deserving teachers don’t miss out on the opportunity to be honored for their hard work and dedication.

The Teacher of the Year will be awarded $10,000 and be profiled in the October 2023 issue of Northern VirginiaMagazine, which will also appear on northernvirginiamag.com. Finalists will also be featured in the story. You can see our Teacher of the Year 2022 coverage here.

The survey runs through April 23 and we welcome nominations from school administrators, teachers, parents, students, former students, and the general public. We have also created a media toolkit to help share the poll with faculty and families.

Commemorative Book Drive

max

Earlier this year one of our beloved former WFES students, Max Pound, passed away following a long battle with brain cancer. To commemorate Max, Frost Middle School will be holding a book drive in his honor throughout his birthday month of April. Books donated through the drive will receive a gold embossed sticker and be included in the library circulation to symbolize Max as an everlasting part of our school community.

Max was an avid reader with a vivacious thirst for knowledge. Books within the registry are related to topics Max truly enjoyed including history, science, space exploration, and jokes, along with some of his all-time favorites. Also included are books that focus on altruism, courage, and overcoming obstacles that represent Max’s character displayed not only throughout his battle with brain cancer, but also in his day-to-day life as a student, teammate, son, sibling, and friend.

To participate, add a book to your cart from the Amazon registry. At checkout, select the Frost MS registry address option to have the book sent directly to Frost Middle School.
