IMPORTANT INFO & EVENTS
Allergy Season
The flowers are blooming & so is allergy season! Many students come to the health room daily c/o itchy, watery eyes, cough and other common symptoms of seasonal allergies. The clinic does not have any medications to treat allergy symptoms and children are not allowed to carry medications on their person. However, families are welcome to drop off allergy medications in the health room for your student. This is an added layer of comfort students and keep them in school during this peak season.

Advanced Academics News!
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to challenging all students through talent development efforts and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of advanced learners.
FCPS offers a continuum of advanced academic services for all students in Grades K-12. The continuum of services approach recognizes unique student needs and focuses on matching services, not labeling students. Through the continuum, students have:
- Multiple entry points for deeper learning opportunities in specific areas of need as they develop.
- A cluster group of students with similar academic needs to continue growing in their learning.
At Washington Mill, we conduct school-based screening for advanced academic services (Levels II-III and Young Scholars) in May. Parents do not need to submit a Level II-III referral form in order to initiate screening because we screen all students. Please find additional information regarding the levels of AAP services offered in FCPS and the screening and identification timeline by clicking on the links below. Please email our Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, Sarah Terrone, at seterrone@fcps.edu with any questions.

It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!
Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events—including orientation—in the Spring during March or April. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps schools prepare and ensure they have the teachers and resources on hand that they need on the first day of school.
After determining which school their child will attend, families should prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms, details can be found on the FCPS kindergarten registration webpage. FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, visit the kindergarten registration webpage.
Make sure to contact our registrar, Margarita Rosado-Soto, to make sure your child is registered for Kindergarten! You can call 703-619-2500 or email her at mrosadosoto@fcps.edu
