It was our honor to recognize and celebrate our military-connected families and students this past week, especially on our Purple Up! day this past Wednesday. We are always grateful! Please note that progress reports go home on Wednesday, but grades are viewable online in ParentVue on Tuesday.
A brief special request for families who pick up their students via the “Walkers” door. We’ve been monitoring the foot traffic that crosses Linton Lane to get into parked cars. There is definitely an increased risk of a motor vehicle/pedestrian accident when parents and students don’t cross at the crosswalk. Many times, we’ve observed an energetic student quickly pop out between parked cars into the travel lane on Linton.
Please consider using the crosswalk with the crossing guard or utilize our car rider line to pick up your student. I have invited our Office of Safety and Security to evaluate this area of Linton Lane and to connect with VDOT on potential crosswalk adjustments. Please know that adding a crosswalk closer to the bike path is not guaranteed and would take time to initiate, if approved.
Lastly, please be respectful of the neighbors who live in the area. Linton Lane is public parking, but occasionally parked cars have blocked driveways, preventing neighbors from pulling in or out of their own driveways. Thanks for your helpful attention to this!

Zoom Visit with Kindergarten and 3rd Grade
Sra. Verich and Sra. Miller's classes had a wonderful “visit” with Major Harencak - mom to Joshua and Adienne.
Major (Dr.) Harencak has been in the United States Air Force for 11 years. She joined the military to serve our country and also so she could travel and take care of the very unique population that is service members. She is deployed for five months in Kuwait. She is a physician and a flight surgeon, meaning she takes care of all of the patients that come into their clinic but also oversees all of the aeromedical evacuations in theater for patients that need a higher level of care. Major Harencak says, “When I get back I am going to get huge hugs from all three of my kids and sit in the backyard under the trees as much as possible – there are very few trees around here!”

Sra. Verich y Sra. Las clases de Miller tuvieron una maravillosa "visita" con Major Harencak - madre de Joshua y Adienne.
El Mayor (Dr.) Harencak ha estado en la Fuerza Aérea de los Estados Unidos durante 11 años. Child Find Screenings
Child Find is the process of identifying children with potential special education needs as well as educating the community about child development and the importance of early intervention. Child Find screenings and services are provided by the FCPS Early Childhood Identification and Services program for children ages 20 months through 5 years who live in Fairfax County or Fairfax city. Save the Date! Safety and Security Town Hall
On Monday, May 8, FCPS will hold a town hall to discuss our approach to safety and security and the work we do every day to keep our schools safe. FCPS staff and experts will review our risk assessment processes, the physical measures we already have in place to protect our students and staff, pilot programs to detect vaping, and how we communicate and collaborate with our partners when there is an incident at our schools. Month/Week Long Awareness Events in April
- Month of the Military Child - April is the Month of the Military Child! Every year we take the opportunity to recognize military-connected youth for their service and contribution to our community. Fairfax County Public Schools is proud to have over 14,000 military-connected youth as a part of our student body. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community, and recognize their strength and resilience. - National Arab American Heritage Month - FCPS is proud to celebrate National Arab American Heritage Month in April. This special month provides an opportunity to recognize the remarkable history and valuable contributions of Arab Americans. Arab Americans have ancestry in one of the world’s 22 Arab nations, which are located from northern Africa through western Asia. The people of these nations are ethnically, politically, and religiously diverse but share a common cultural and linguistic heritage. - School Library Month - In FCPS libraries, students develop knowledge and skills, experience a sense of belonging, find inspiration and support, and have the ability to freely pursue their personal interests and academic growth. Watch this video to learn how FCPS librarians make a difference.
- Autism Acceptance Month - April is Autism Acceptance Month. One in 44 children is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder in the United States, according to the CDC. Our schools and staff play a vital role in creating and ensuring inclusive environments that accommodate and affirm autistic students.

Hello Fabulous Fort Hunt Volunteers! One of our Cafeteria Hostesses will be out for 2 weeks (April 24-May 5) and we could really use an extra set of hands to help out. You will help open lunch items, get forgotten utensils, make sure students stay in seats and raise hands for needed items, etc.

"Coffee & Conversations" Parent/Caregiver Networking Event - April 28th
This event is open to parents and caregivers of students with disabilities in Fairfax County Public Schools.
Join the FCPS Applied Behavior Analysis Program and Behavior Intervention Services for “Coffee & Conversations,” an opportunity for parents and caregivers of students with disabilities to come together and learn more about FCPS programs while connecting with other parents and caregivers. Coffee and light refreshments will be served. The event will be on April 28th from 9:00a-11:00a in the Merrifield/Falls Church area - location will be emailed to those who register.
