Message from Mrs. Castillo

Lions

We had a great week back from Spring Break and were excited to hear stories from lions how they spent time over break.  Our lions were busy this week! Third graders enjoyed a fun trip to the Building Museum on Monday, fourth graders shared their PBL presentations, fifth graders constructed inventive musical instruments from recycled materials, and sixth graders are completing their creative clay whistles in art.

Tuesday morning, we welcome our rising kindergartners and families for  Kindergarten Orientation from 8:30 - 10:00.  If anyone has a neighbor new to our community with a child ready for kindergarten, please encourage them to join us.  Parking is limited at Lemon Road, but we will use the blacktop for overflow parking for the orientation.

Only one more quarter to go in this school year! How time flies when we are working hard and having fun! We appreciate your continued support and commitment to our school.

Planning for Next Year

Kindergarten

Lemon Road is planning for next year!  In order to monitor class size and hire the very best staff, we need to know plans for our families.  Please take a moment to complete the student/family intent form available here:  https://lemonroades.fcps.edu/student-services/student-intention-form.

Rising kindergarteners or new families to Lemon Road, please complete this form: https://lemonroades.fcps.edu/student-services/new-student-registration

Parents that wish to contribute information towards class lists for the 2023 - 2024 school year, may submit this form.  Completion of the form is optional, however, the deadline for submission is April 28, 2023. Thank you for your partnership.  Parents of rising kindergarteners will receive a separate link this summer.

Freaky Fridays & Party Treats

Freaky Friday

Lemon Road loves to celebrate our students.  We celebrate birthdays one day per month, known as Freaky Friday.  We ask that our room parents collaborate with our teachers to ensure that all students celebrate their birthday on that day.  This limits interruptions to instruction, cares for students with dietary restrictions/allergies, ensures that all students are recognized, and helps us maintain a healthy school environment when it comes to treats in the school.

We have three more "Freaky Fridays" this year:

- Friday, April 28 (Tie Dye Day)

- Friday, May 26 (Fitness Day)

- Wednesday, June 14 (celebrating June & July birthdays)

In addition to Freaky Fridays, birthdays are announced weekly on the Friday News Show and recognized without food treats in the classroom on the actual day for each child.

When bringing in treats to support Freaky Friday, please limit sweet treats to one sweet item per child (cupcake, cookie, ice cream, popsicle) that is individually portioned. We welcome additional healthy options like fruit or non-edible items like a pencil or stickers.  We also ask that parents do not send in soda for student consumption during the school day (for Freaky Fridays, class parties, etc.).  Thank you for your support in celebrating our lions in a healthy and fun way!

Positivity Project - Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence

Appreciation

Appreciation of beauty and excellence is the ability to identify and enjoy that which is admirable in the world. You notice and value the world’s beauty and people’s skills. You don’t take things for granted. Appreciating excellence and beauty helps an individual experience positive emotions and connect to the world around him/her. Those who appreciate excellence and beauty make our lives more enjoyable. It means that they’re not looking to criticize the world or its people, but instead take pleasure from their excellence. They may admire the way the sun hits off a wave or the quiet perseverance of a cross-country runner, they are able to see the world with fresh eyes.
