Bike to School

Wednesday, May 3rd is Bike to School Day! FCPS is encouraging students to strap on a helmet and lace up their shoes for National Bike & Roll to School Day. Additionally, we are pleased to announce that Braddock ES has three bike stations where students who wish to ride their bikes can store and lock their bikes. The bike stands are located between the cafeteria and the main entrance. For safety reasons, we have a camera that will monitor the bikes and any activity going on in that area.

Teacher Appreciation Week

The first week of May is Teacher Appreciation Week! We like to shower our fabulous teachers with love that week. One of the ways we do that is by raffling off gift cards! If you are able to donate $5, $10, $15 gift cards to places like, Amazon, Dollar Tree, Giant, Target, or local businesses - the PTA and teachers would be VERY grateful!

The Communicator Attribute

What is a Communicator?

Students that embody the attribute of communicator share their thoughts, feelings, ideas, and perspectives so others can understand them, and they can understand others.

Communicator Skills and K-6 Objectives:

  • Applies effective reading skills to acquire knowledge and broaden perspectives.
    • I make connections to what I read or hear.
  • Employs active listening strategies to advance understanding.
    • I listen and ask questions so I can understand.
  • Speaks in a purposeful manner to inform, influence, motivate, or entertain listeners.
    • I speak for a reason so others can understand me.
  • Incorporates effective writing skills for various purposes and audiences to convey understanding and concepts.
    • I write to share my ideas.
  • Uses technological skills and contemporary digital tools to explore and exchange ideas.
    • I use digital tools to research and share ideas.

Support the Communicator Attribute at Home

Consider telling your child when they are demonstrating a skill at home or in a social setting, "You were a communicator today when you asked me how to help your sister so you could understand me better."

Instead of asking your child "What did you learn today?" try these questions instead.

  • How were you a communicator today?
  • What were some ways you shared your ideas today?
  • When did you respectfully listen to the ideas of others?
