Love and Farewell to Mrs. Keefer!
Our beloved Mrs. Keefer will be moving to a new school. Mrs. Keefer has been an amazing office assistant at Halley for many years and we don’t know what we will do without her! Over the years, she has taken extraordinary care of our school, students and families. She will be greatly missed.
We wish Mrs. Keefer infinite blessings and joy on her new journey!

Academic Matters:
Curriculum for Core Content
Added to Website
At the March 30 School Board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid presented updates to curriculum overview on the FCPS website during the Academic Matters segment. Parents/caregivers can see what their students are learning in their core classes by grade level. We hope this information will allow us to better partner with parents and caregivers to support academic success.
As stated on each grade level and course page, the objectives and outcomes for each unit are common across FCPS and based on the Virginia Standards of Learning. The pacing provides an example of how the curriculum can be organized throughout the year. Teacher teams may adjust the pacing or order of units to best meet the needs of students.
Information will be updated at the start of each school year. To access the grade level and/or course pages directly, visit our Academics page.
SOL Testing Calendar 2023
SOL testing will be taking place in the month of May this year for students in grades 3-6. The SOL assessments are content assessments that measure a student’s growth in Mathematics, Reading, and Science (5th grade only).
These tests will be conducted during the dates listed in the table below. It is important that your child attend school on the dates designated for them to test. Please ensure your child gets plenty of rest the night prior. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Buchko, our school testing coordinator at jmbuchko@fcps.edu.
We are hoping to organize an amazing Career Day for our Hornets!
When: June 6, 2023
Time: 9:30 – 11:30 and 12- 2
Theme: “Your future is Bright!”
Whatever your job, students at Halley would like to hear about it!
WE NEED SPEAKERS!
Come for an hour or two and tell us all about your job. Presenters will speak for about 20 minutes per class, visiting 2-4 classes. Tell us what your education or training is, and what skills you need to do well. Share both what you like about your job and what is challenging or interesting about it.
For more information or to sign-up, please contact Assistant Principals, Mrs. Johnson-Tyler, and Mrs. Zamora!

The PTO REALLY NEEDS YOU!
We are currently looking for anyone interested in being a part of the 2023-2024 Board next year!
Please contact Klpeerman@fcps.edu if you’re interested!
Without volunteers the PTO will not exist and all that PTO provides will not happen for our students. If you are even a little interested, we would love to have you part of the team.
