Churchill Chatter - Issue 16, April 14, 2023
Dear Churchill Road Families,
We hope you all enjoyed the respite over spring break. This past week our students returned to learning relaxed and refreshed. Our upper grade students enjoyed a visit from author Shawn Peters, and we welcomed members of the Churchill Road class of 2030 during our Kindergarten Orientation!
As our fourth quarter begins, we look forward to the debut of our new salad bar in the cafeteria on April 19. We are looking for parent volunteers during lunch especially to support our younger students in the first few days of the salad bar. See below for more information.
The PTA is having a wonderful Backyard BBQ event on May 19th for our entire school community! Look for more information from the PTA in the weeks to come.

Welcome Churchill Road Class of 2030!
We were thrilled to meet many of our incoming kindergarteners at our Kindergarten Orientation! Thank you for taking the time to attend yesterday afternoon. We hope you gained an insight into Churchill Road and that your students enjoyed spending some time in the classroom meeting new friends!
Please let us know if you need any more information and we look forward to meeting all of our new Kindergartners next school year. If you were unable to attend, please contact our Student Information Assistant, Angie Kim, ackim@fcps.edu, with any questions.

Salad Bar Opens April 19
Our Salad Bar opens this Wednesday, April 19! The Salad Bar is made possible through a partnership between Food and Nutrition Services (FNS), school communities, and Real Food for Kids. We are thankful for the teamwork that has resulted in the Salad Bar and its healthy options for our children! The Salad Bar offers a selection including vegetables, fruits, and proteins. What are students' lunch options?
The Salad Bar has fruits, vegetables, and proteins. Every day, there will be 2 cold protein choices on the Salad Bar. Grain and dairy (milk) options will be available inside the lunch line. There are also hot meal options. Students may select a vegetable and fruit from the salad bar along with a hot meal item. Student guidelines are shown below.

Spring 2023 SOL Testing Schedule
The Churchill Road SOL schedule for Spring 2023 has been finalized. Please see the chart above. It is important that your child attend school on these days. If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or appointments that would take your child out of school during this time period. It is also important that your child has had a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast before testing! We thank you, in advance.
School Library Month and National Library Week
With April being School Library Month and National Library Week occurring April 23-29, 2023, now is a great time to share our appreciation for school librarians. Explore all that school library programs have to offer for student learning, and the important roles that school librarians play in the school community.
Centrally, Library Information Services provides professional resources for all administrators, school-based, and central office staff. Access information for articles and ebooks on leadership, PLCs, cultural responsiveness, and more can be found here.
