Floris Families,

We enjoyed meeting many of our new Kindergarten students last Friday at Kindergarten Orientation. Wednesday night was amazing with the Book Fair buying, PTA meeting, and International Night. We were excited to have Melanie Meren, Hunter Mill School Board Representative, with us as well.

We are also enjoying the April Spirit Week. Please remember that Saturday is Earth Day, so the Spirit Week continues to Monday. We hope to see lots of green on Monday to celebrate Earth Day.

Thank you to Tiffany Dowling, our fabulous librarian, for all of the hard work and planning that go into a Book Fair. We also appreciate the families who shared at International Night, and the PTA volunteers who made the International Night happen. It was a wonderful evening all around.

Eid al-Fitr begins this evening at sunset and continues tomorrow. FCPS has designated tomorrow (4/21) as a holiday. There is no school tomorrow.

Have a fabulous weekend, and we will see you Monday.

Events on Wednesday

Earth Day

Earth Day Activities

Earth Day is on Saturday, April 22nd, and we'll be celebrating today, with our Blackout for Conservation spirit day through Monday, when we'll wear green to promote keeping the Earth green.

April Spirit Week

The Green Team also has The Ultimate Earth Day Pledge challenge for students, scheduled for the weekend, April 21-23.  Students and staff are encouraged to reduce their carbon footprint and give the earth a break by recycling and reusing material, biking and walking more, and going electronics free!  Students have had the opportunity to grab copies of the pledge from Mrs. de Kramer this week, but feel free to print your own copy from the above link.

All students and staff are encouraged to join FCPS Get2Green and our own fabulous Floris Green Team in celebrating Earth Day. There are many ways to foster conversation and learning about environmental topics that are essential in developing students as environmental stewards and ethical and global citizens.

EidalFitr

Eid al-Fitr

Eid al-Fitr, marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting, and is celebrated during the first three days of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar. Read more at Britannica.com.

FCPS has designated Eid al-Fitr as a religious and cultural observance day designed to allow students the opportunity to miss school for observances not already designated as school holidays.

Eid al-Fitr is from sunset April 20 to sunset April 21. Thursday, April 20, is a half O Day, and Friday, April  21, is a holiday (only 12 month employees report).

National Library Week

National Library Week

April is School Library Month and it's a great time to celebrate the essential role that school librarians play in the lives of students. School librarians ensure students have access to a wide variety of high-quality books and resources that connect them to the world and build a culture of literacy. Librarians develop lessons that are meaningful to students and help them develop critical thinking, inquiry, and information literacy skills. They support learning across all subject areas by teaching students the skills to be independent problem-solvers and creative thinkers. By creating a safe environment for all students to be engaged and curious learners, FCPS libraries are places where everyone belongs.

National Library Week is April 23-29. Take a moment to learn more about FCPS Library Programs and share our appreciation of your school librarian!
