The presentation is connected to successful classroom instruction and must be completed to receive a DEC-District 8 card (pink card). The parent-teen traffic safety presentation (PSTD) will be offered multiple times during the school year at Oakton. All PSTDs begin promptly. Late admission will not be allowed.

Testing Corner

Spring standardized testing is coming up in April and May.  Please check out the Oakton HS testing page for more information.

SOL Testing

Spring SOL testing is coming. Families of students who are testing will be receiving notification of testing soon, and students will be emailed their testing schedules close to our testing window of April 24 – May 19, 2023. Students must test in person at Oakton HS using their FCPS-issued laptops, so it is imperative that students bring their FCPS devices to school regularly for necessary program and application updates.

Please review this information regarding SOL testing, learn more from Assessment Coach Molly Brady as she walks families through SOLs and Verified Credits, and check out our FAQs on SOL testing on our testing webpage.

Schedule Changes

At this time, we are accepting schedule change requests. School counselors and administrators will try to accommodate course change requests, however, due to staffing restraints, classes are extremely limited. Students interested in a schedule change should see their school counselor for the "Schedule Change Request Form". All forms need to have detailed information from student, parent, school counselor and teacher prior to being reviewed by the administration.

The last day for schedule changes for the 2022-2023 school year is Thursday, April 13.

Service Learning Updates

Service Learning Enrichment Opportunities

In an effort to highlight enrichment experiences that can connect service learning for students, FCPS has put together a brief one page document with various enrichment experiences. All of these experiences are posted in the Naviance Enrichment Database, but we also wanted to highlight them for our community in case any students might be interested.

Service Learning and X2VOL

All students at Oakton are encouraged to use X2VOL via their Naviance account to record and continue to record all Service Learning completed throughout the school year. The deadline for seniors to enter their service hours is Thursday, April 20, 2023.  Any hours submitted after this deadline are not guaranteed to be approved before the central office pull of data on May 1, 2023.  Students may access information and help for X2VOL via Naviance using the following link https://help.x2vol.com/knowledge/for-naviance-schools

Mental Health Teletherapy

No-Cost Mental Health Teletherapy for Students Starting April 10

FCPS has partnered with Hazel Health to begin offering virtual mental health services to high school students via live video sessions. Starting Monday, April 10, parents/caregivers who have been struggling to find a therapist for their child or who notice changes in their child’s behavior will be able to connect them virtually with a licensed therapist.

Teletherapy services for students are short-term, evidence-based, and culturally-responsive. Teletherapy is available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Therapists will be locally-licensed clinicians; 50% of whom identify as Black, Indigenous, or people of color (BIPOC); and 40% of whom are bilingual. More than 15 languages are available.

Hazel Health’s licensed therapists can help students who are experiencing:

  • Mood/behavior changes, lack of motivation, grief/loss.
  • Anxiety, worry, fears.
  • Bullying, sexual identity challenges, challenging peer and family relationships.
  • Academic stress.

The first step for parents is to provide information through an opt-in form. Visit FCPS’ Teletherapy webpage for details.

Safety and Security Updates

Anonymous Tip Line Puts Safety First

If you or your child have concerns or information relating to feeling unsafe in any way at school, we encourage you to reach out to a member of the security or administrative team so that we may quickly address the issue.  Students and parents may also utilize the FCPS Office of Safety and Security safety tip line, that you can access anonymously online, by text (888-777; Keyword TIP FCPS), or by phone (571-423-2020).

If your tip is an emergency and immediate assistance is necessary, please dial 911.

Students, staff, and community members should report school safety issues such as threats, unsafe or dangerous situations, illegal drug activity, theft, gang activity, the existence of weapons, vandalism, and concerns about student wellness. Tip line users may identify themselves or remain anonymous.

Concerns that do not impact the safety of our schools—concerns or information about programs, regulations, or policies—can be sent to the FCPS ombudsman online, at 571-423-4014, or ombudsman@fcps.edu
