Message from the Principals

Please join us in celebrating six proud Pumas that participated a Taekwondo tournament, 2023 National Capitol Open, at the South Lakes High School in Herndon on Saturday, March 25, 2023. Approximately 650 participants from 35+ taekwondo academies competed at the tournament and six Colin Powell students won multiple gold medals in their own divisions for POOMSAE (Takwondo forms). They trained together at a local taekwondo academy, Kimminkyung Taekwondo Academy (KTA), and put in additional effort by training on Saturdays over the past a few weeks and it paid off!

Students participated in an obstacle course, bean bag toss, tennis ball throw, and a 50 & 200 m run around the track. Thank you to all of the families and staff that came out to cheer along our Pumas! The students beamed with pride throughout the event!

Bullying

At Colin Powell, we work to develop classroom communities that are inclusive, respectful, and celebrate the unique strengths and personalities of each of its members. Even so, students may have missteps or disagreements with classmates.

In today’s society, we tend to use the word bullying interchangeably with “being mean.” Neither are ok. However, FCPS has a specific, 3-part definition of bullying.

Bullying in Students Rights and Responsibilities is defined as:  “Any aggressive and unwanted behavior that is intended to harm, intimidate, or humiliate the victim; involves a real or perceived power imbalance between the aggressor or aggressors and victim; and is repeated over time or causes severe emotional trauma. “Bullying” includes cyberbullying. “Bullying” does not include ordinary teasing, horseplay, argument, or peer conflict.” If you have questions about bullying, or want to learn more about how FCPS responds to bullying accusations, please see this FCPS website reference or contact school administrators or school counselors.
