 Dr. Recess Visits Oak View
Oak View enjoyed their visit with Dr. Recess this past Monday. Students in all grades, K-6, enjoyed an assembly and then time outside with Dr. Recess himself. Dr. Hinson, aka Dr. Recess, is a former PE teacher with more than 40 years of classroom/coaching experience. He collaborated with our PE department and Wellness ESSER lead to bring fun games and activities to Oak View. Students first learned the games, had chances to model them for their peers and then play them outside! It was a fun experience for all!
Kindness Week x 2 Coming April 10 - April 20
Oak View is excited to celebrate two weeks of kindness because one week is not enough time to contain all of the kindness our students have to share! Our school counselors have collaborated with our ESSER Wellness Lead for a fun-filled Kindness Event unlike others we have experienced before. Students are invited to dress up throughout the two weeks to show their kindness and care for others! We look forward to having as many students participate as possible and appreciate the support of our families.
As an extra-special treat, our students will participate in a school-wide assembly on Tuesday, April 18. This assembly is hosted by Brian Williams of think kindness. The objectives of this presentation include:
- Explain and describe kindness
- Know the three steps to become a Kindness Ninja
- (1) Start Small
- (2) Be Brave
- (3) Be Kind
- Give actionable ideas to spread kindness
- Respect, Bravery, Empathy, and Forgiveness
- The impact a simple act of kindness can have
This work aligns with our desire to not only support the academics of our students but also their emotional intelligence. Our students will be inspired to do kind acts and we could not be more excited!

FCPS PreK/Head Start Information
Does Your Child Qualify for PreK or Early Head Start?
FCPS PreK and Early Head Start Programs provide a quality preschool experience with no cost to qualifying families who live in Fairfax County. Your family may qualify for preK or Early Head Start if you:
- have a child who will be age 3 or 4 by September 30,
- receive free or reduced-price school meals, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Social Security Income, and/or are considered homeless per definition of the McKinney Vento Act, or
- receive resources such as from a shelter and/or the FCPS homeless liaison office.
Though many families may qualify, spaces are limited. Selection is based on need, not “first come, first serve”, with pre-K priority given to 4 year olds. It is important for all families to apply as soon as possible.
Early Head Start is for children 2 years of age and younger, and pregnant women who live in the Reston, Herndon, and Springfield areas.
Visit the Pre-K and Early Head Start webpage for more information, or call 703-208-7900 (English) or 703-208-7901 (Spanish).
