A Note from Mrs. Burke

Dear Rocky Run Families and Students,

We are getting to that time of year where our weather is warming up and we are in full swing of our end of the year activities.  During this month we have our Rocky Run vs Franklin Basketball Game on 4/17 at Chantilly HS, Pyramid Art Show on 4/19 at Chantilly HS and our Pyramid Spotlight on Student Learning at 6pm at Franklin MS. (see below for more details on these events) I look forward to seeing our Rocky Run families at these events.

Over spring break, we celebrated assistant principal week and I wanted to personally thank Christine Sciabica and Tom DeRusso for all of their hard work in supporting our students, staff and families.  Our school would not be the same without them leading us and we are grateful for all their hardwork.

We are looking forward to a great 4th quarter!

Amanda Burke

Interim Principal

April is the Month of the Military Child! Every year we take the opportunity to recognize military-connected youth for their service and contribution to our community. Fairfax County Public Schools is proud to have over 14,000 military-connected youth as a part of our student body. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community, and recognize their strength and resilience. Learn more about Month of the Military Child and FCPS’ resources for military families.

Rocky Run is proud to be a Purple Star School and serves approximately 30 military connected families. We look forward to seeing our military connected families here at Rocky Run on 4/19 for breakfast. Mrs. Burke will be attending the breakfast as a military child and bringing her dad with her, Retired Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen.

If you are an RRMS student’s parent or guardian that is currently active duty, reserve duty, or retired, please RSVP and let us know if you can join your child for breakfast. Even if you are not able to join us, please RSVP as we still want to make sure your student is recognized as an important member of our military community.

Help Needed: District 12 Solo & Ensemble Festival

Ramtastic Rocky Run Family Community,

Our Music department could use some of our community support for an event (District 12 Solo and Ensemble festival ) that they are hosting on Friday, April 28 and 29.  This event will be bringing over 1,000 performers, parents, music professionals, and directors to Rocky Run.  How can you help?  Well, there is one area we have a need for assistance in and that is food and paper product donations.  If you have the ability to assist us, please look at our Amazon Wishlist for the event.  We will be collecting items until Friday, April 24.  Thank you so much in advance for your help and support of our all musicians not only here at Rocky Run but in FCPS.   We really appreciate it!

Hidden in Plain Sight

The Hidden in Plain Sight (HIPS) program is an IN-PERSON interactive program for adults to be educated about the signs of risky behavior in teens and young adults. It touches on drug and alcohol use, mental health concerns, eating disorders, risky sexual behaviors and more.

The hands-on portion is followed by an educational section that includes a PowerPoint presentation detailing the red flag props that the room contained and how it is indicative of — or used in — risky behavior. We include up to date statistics and local trends, and law enforcement officers will share their experiences they have had in our community identifying risky behavior and helping to put kids on the right path to a healthy life.  Let’s open the door to communicating with our teens!

Join us Thursday, April 27th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Chantilly High School (Library).  Click here for more information.
