AAP Spring Updates

|
|
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) and Kent Gardens is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of advanced learners. Students may be screened for subject-specific and part-time AAP services at any time in the school year. However, in the spring, schools review data on all students to determine services for the start of the next school year. All students are screened in the spring, thus, it is not necessary to submit a referral form. Families will be notified of eligibility of newly-identified, part-time services during the second week of June.
To learn more, contact Kent Garden's Advanced Academic Resources Teacher (AART), Deb Bulford at drbulford@fcps.edu

Purple Up Day for our Military!
FCPS 2023 Purple Up! ~ April is the Month of the Military Child, a time to recognize children from military families for their contributions and sacrifices. FCPS is inviting all students, families, school employees, and community members to “Purple Up!” by wearing purple on April 19th for military children.
We will be hosting our military families on the 19th of April in the cafeteria. Come join us at 8:15 a.m. in the cafeteria for 'Donuts with Dependents' and engage in a family map game. In order to plan, we ask that you help us plan by sharing your possible attendance. Let us know by completing this form.
Student Placement Input 2023-24
One of our important tasks is determining class placements for the next school year. The school staff works collaboratively to begin planning teacher and student assignments for next year. It is the task of the grade level teachers, specialists, and administration to determine distribution of teachers and students to optimally organize classroom assignments for next year. A variety of factors such as student personalities, friendships, and academic abilities are also considered as we create our new classes. Other factors impacting the decision-making process of student class assignments are new student enrollment and teachers moving to a new assignment.
Kent Gardens' families can assist us in determining class placement by sharing their insights about their child with respect to academic and behavioral information. Please note the following: We do not accept requests for specific teachers for the upcoming grade placement. This includes hints that reference specific teachers. We cannot guarantee multiple friend requests nor exceptions for other students whereby there may be a conflict. That said, we do our best to ensure one friend so that your child feels comfortable during the school year. Completion of the form is optional: however, the deadline for any correspondence is April 21, 2023. Complete one form per child.

April is Earth Month
|
We are calling on all of Kent Gardens Lions to help celebrate and care for Mother Earth this year! April 22 is the official day we observe Earth Day, but we will be spending the week leading up to Earth Day doing our part to become better environmental stewards. We will update with Spirit Days next week! These suggestions will guide and encourage discussions about what each of us can do to help protect our beautiful planet. Remember, if we all take little steps forward we can make a big difference.

SHARING THE CARING SPIRIT OF KGES
As a school, we are filled with wonderful teachers, staff, and support who help enrich our student's lives. Please consider taking a moment to fill out a FCPS CARES form for those you feel exemplify #KGPRIDE.
These responses will be shared with our staff and administration directly and are a wonderful way to let them know you care. As a school, as a community, we are #StrongerTogether and we appreciate all our teachers and staff do.
Come Join PTA Sponsored Activities!
TEACHER LOVE!
Our teachers and staff are truly the backbone of our school, and we want to shower them with love. The KGES Wellness Committee has shared that teachers love it when there is coffee/tea available, occasionally including a small snack for them in the lounge.
We would like to show #Teacher Love. You can bring in coffee/tea, snacks, bags of mini candies, whatever goodies you think might help sweeten their day. You can also help stack the staff lounge with paper plates/cups/napkins...etc. Please choose a slot to volunteer and drop off in the Staff Lounge by 8am on Wednesdays to show some love and support for our fabulous teachers and staff. Thank you in advance for supporting our school!
Teacher Appreciation Week
We are on the lookout for volunteers to support Teacher Appreciation Week (May 1st-5th)! If you are interested in helping, please email Andrea Hager at kgptapresident@gmail.com.
