Principal’s Message

Greetings Irving Families!

Next week is “officially” National Assistant Principal’s Week. However, since we will be on Spring Break, we celebrated our Outstanding APs, Ms. Emily Cincinnati and Mr. Shawn Spear, this week. I consider myself very fortunate to work with them both everyday! They do so much for our school, staff, students, and families that very few will ever see or know about because they work behind the scenes to make things happen. They literally walk miles in our building, daily, helping our students and staff. They are champions for our students and spend a great amount of time checking in on students so they can experience academic, behavioral, and social and emotional success. We are grateful they chose to work at Irving and for all they do to keep our school safe and running smoothly! Please join me in thanking Ms. Cincinnati and Mr. Spear - they truly are fantastic educators and assistant principals!

We hope you have a wonderful Spring Break!

Take Care!

Cindy Conley

Principal

College Partnership Program (CPP)

Do you have a student between grades 8 through 11 who wants to go to college? If so, they should consider applying to the College Partnership Program (CPP), which offers support as students explore the idea of going to college! As in prior years, the deadline has been extended until April 14, 2023.

CPP offers programming to help prepare students and families from 9th grade all the way through applying to and enrolling in college, including:

  •         Academic counseling;
  •         College visits;
  •         Help with completing college and scholarship applications;
  •         Monthly meetings;
  •         Parent education sessions;
  •         SAT preparation classes;
  •         A summer overnight experience on a college campus; and
  •         News and information related to colleges and careers via Schoology.

All students are eligible and encouraged to apply to this program, and are expected to meet the following requirements:

  •         Maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher in core classes
  •         Attend CPP activities
  •         Are willing to pursue advanced coursework
  •         Demonstrate leadership in school or community activities

The goal of the program is to systematically mitigate the impact of barriers to access and opportunity, and support students who are from populations that are historically underrepresented on college campuses. This includes students who are the first in their family to attend college in the U.S., English language learners, students who are economically disadvantaged, and students with disabilities.

Click HERE to apply.

All applications will be submitted ONLINE ONLY.

Spring Break Laptop Care

FCPS Spring Break will be April 3-7, 2023 and while we are all looking forward to some rest and relaxation, it’s important to help your student remember these important laptop care items over the break:

  1. If you’re traveling, leave the school-issued laptop at home to avoid leaving it somewhere or something else happening to it.
  2. Put the laptop in a safe place over the break so it’s protected from pets, siblings and other unforeseen circumstances.
  3. Charge the laptop Sunday, April 9 and restart it several times at school on Monday. This will give it time to wake up and apply much-needed updates.

I joined the PTA Exec Team to feel like I know more about what is going on, as something about Middle School seemed to make it harder to keep up with it all. More details posted on our FB page and website https://irvingms.memberhub.com/ (copy and paste).
