On Friday, April 14 we will hold an orientation and registration event for new Kindergarteners for the 2023-2024 school year.
Kindergarten teachers will be taking parents and rising kindergarteners on a tour of the building and will be answering your questions. The tour will end in the cafeteria where there will be opportunity for children to go through the lunch line and get a snack. Also in the cafeteria, parents will be able to meet our administrators and representatives from the PTA.
Please make a tour appointment for Friday the 14th. Tours will begin at 9, 9:30 and 10 a.m. Tour groups will consist of multiple families.
If you have not completed the in-person steps of the registration process please bring your documents with you and drop them off at the front office before your tour appointment. For more details and a list of the required documents please refer to our website. Original copies will be returned to you at the end of your tour. If you have any questions about Kindergarten Registration you may contact our registrar, Ann Rajabi at arajabi@fcps.edu.
In the coming months there will be additional opportunities to introduce your rising Kindergarten student to the building, and for families to learn more about our programs. Stay tuned to the Franklin Sherman FLASH and our website for more information.

We are beginning the process of creating our classroom groupings for next year. This task involves teachers, specialists, counselors and administrators. Your input and insights about the needs of your child are also important. Parents are invited to complete the Parent Input for Class Placement form (one per child) by April 14, 2023 to share your input on your child's placement for next year. Requests for specific teachers will not be honored.

Online Registration (OLR) will be available at more than 30 pilot schools beginning Friday, March 31. All FCPS schools will offer online registration beginning in June.
Families will be able to register their students electronically via SIS ParentVUE. Directions to setting up a SIS ParentVUE account are on the online registration page.
The new system reduces manual data entry of basic student registration at all schools, allows online registration using the portal at any hour of any day, and enables secure electronic upload of student registration documents and storage, reducing paper records management. Parents/Guardians will continue to have the option of downloading the registration form bundle or paper registration forms as needed. Visit our website for more information on registering your child.

April is the Month of the Military Child. Mr. Nielsen our School Counselor is a veteran (USAF) and would love to help us all celebrate our military families expecially next week during MoMC Spirit Week. Please send your family pictures with members in uniform to jpnielsen@fcps.edu. We will share the photos with students in a school news broadcast next week. If you can share please include the names of individuals in the photos with branch of service and bases stationed.

Internet Content Filtering and Usage Reports for Parents
Did you know? There is an online service that is free to FCPS parents who are interested in knowing more about their child’s internet activity on an FCPS device. Parents can sign up to receive a weekly Parent Report from Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service, which will provide a list of the top sites the child visited that week.
Additionally, if parents wish to get more detailed information, the weekly Parent Report offers parents the ability to self-sign-up to the free Internet Use Parent Portal. Parents who sign up for the Internet Use Parent Portal can log-in any time to see a little more detail about their child’s internet browsing. The portal also offers the parent added ability to “pause” access to the internet during non-school hours on the FCPS device.
Learn more about this and other Digital Citizenship and Safety topics on the FCPS website.
