The purpose of this is to share information with you regarding expectations for appropriate student dress at Navy Elementary School. Fairfax County Public Schools Regulation 2601.20P states that all students are expected to dress appropriately for a K-12 educational environment. Our focus at Navy is to foster an environment of mutual respect and positive instruction. We feel strongly that having students dress appropriately will assist in maintaining this focus.
Listed below are guidelines we would like to share with your children.
Expectations for appropriate student dress:
- Shirts should completely cover chest, back and stomach.
- Tank tops may be worn if they are not low-cut, all undergarments are concealed by straps that are at least 1 inch (2 fingers) thick. Off the shoulder and tops not covering your entire mid-section are not allowed.
- Clothing should fit, be neat and clean, and conform to standards of safety, good taste, and decency.
- Shorts should be of appropriate length.
- Skirts should be no more than 6 inches above the knee.
- No undergarments should show at any time.
- No clothing should display language or images that are vulgar, discriminatory, or obscene or clothing that promotes illegal or violent conduct, such as unlawful use of weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or drug paraphernalia.
- No hats, hoods, or visors unless there is a religious, cultural, or medical reason.
Please monitor what your children wear to school. If students come to school dressed in a manner that is not consistent with these guidelines, parents will be notified. Thank you for your attention to this matter. The Navy Elementary staff appreciates your support as we strive to maintain a safe, positive, and productive learning environment. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please call Navy Administration at (703) 262-7100.
As we approach the end of the school year the PTO board begins to look for parent volunteers to fill the upcoming PTO board vacancies. Per our PTO bylaws, each position holds a two year term and current board members cannot remain on the board over two years without a minimum of a one year break.
Typically, of the 6 core board positions, 3 positions are filled each year to maintain a general working knowledge of how the PTO operates with the remaining 3 positions. A seventh position, Director of After School Activities, also typically rotates on a two-year cycle, but can have a little more flexibility.
We will have four core board positions to fill for the 2023-2024 school year.
The vacant Navy PTO Board positions for 2023-2024 are:
- President
- 2nd Vice President, Volunteer Coordinator
- Treasurer
- Financial Secretary
Without the positions filled for next school year, the PTO will be severely crippled in the ability to support the students, staff, and families of the Navy ES community.
Interested candidates can email 2nd VP, Minji Lee, at navyptovolunteers@gmail.com for more information.
Thank you for your consideration!

Navy held their STEAM Fair this past Monday. The kids put so much work into their STEAM fair projects that focused on, "Improving Your Life With STEAM!" There were so many incredible projects and all of our students did a wonderful job being communicators and sharing their hard work. Take a look at just some of the great work we saw. You can find more on our social media accounts.
