Federal and State Assessment Expectations for SOL Testing:
State and federal legislation and regulatory guidance lay out expectations for delivery of the Virginia assessment program. The U.S. Education Department (USED) continues to require administration of annual state assessments for federal participation in grades 3-8, which is fulfilled through SOL and VAAP tests. In 2014, the Virginia General Assembly eliminated non-federally required SOL tests in grades 3-7, and established a requirement that schools instead assess this content through Local Alternative Assessments (LAAs), to include performance-based assessments (PBA). Assessments in grade level content areas are as follows:
Grade
|
SOL or VAAP (Spring)
|
LAA (Ongoing)
|
3
|
Reading, Mathematics
|
Science, Social Studies
|
4
|

Testing expectations for mathematics are tied to the student’s enrolled course content. Students enrolled in Advanced Math 5-6 will take the SOL test for the next grade level.
On Thursday, 3/30/2023, letters were sent home in Thursday folders for students who receive accommodations on testing due to their English Learner or Individualized Educational Plan (IEP). If you received one of these letters, please review the letter and notify School Testing Coordinators Nicole Cassidy or Nicole Scher if there are any errors or questions: nlcassidy@fcps.edu or nrscher@fcps.edu. Please see below for full schedule of SOL testing dates:

Last month, the division hosted a conversation on the dangers of fentanyl. During this impactful event, audience members heard testimonials from individuals affected by the opioid epidemic and learned facts from medical experts and law enforcement representatives.
The conversation will continue on Monday, April 24, 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Woodson High School. Transportation will be available from select schools throughout the county. View the registration page for details.
Visit our Opioid Awareness webpage for more information. Visit the Fairfax County Government webpage on opioids for information on how you can take action and how to get help for yourself or loved ones.
FCPS is excited to show you the most recent version of proposed goals for the new Strategic Plan. Join us for a virtual community forum and see how your survey feedback has helped inform the latest draft of the plan. Community forums are open to parents/caregivers, staff, students, and community members. Please register by clicking on one of the following dates:
We appreciate your continued involvement throughout every step of this important process. Together, we will help ensure a thriving future for each and every FCPS student. Visit our Strategic Planning webpage.

When Bailey’s Upper students bring school laptops home it is to practice their reading and math skills. Through Schoology, students login to Lexia for Reading skills practice and ST Math for math skills practice. It is recommended that students spend about 15 minutes on each activity.
Please note, students should only use school laptops at home with parent/guardian supervision and are ONLY permitted to go to school approved sites on the school laptop. All websites can be accessed in Schoology. Students do not need to use Google to go to websites on school laptops that are for FCPS Learning Program only.
If you are interested in volunteering at Bailey's Upper please call the front office at (703) 503-2700 or email our Family Liaison Marian Perez at mperez3@fcps.edu.
