Terra Centre Families,

Our students have had quite the week! It started with our salad bar officially reopening. We also held our 2nd annual "Book Fair, BBQ, and Bingo event. Everyone had a lot of fun and everyone was well fed by the end of the evening. To end our week, our Kinders held their Invention Expo with visitors from the U.S. Patent Office who listened to the great inventions Kinders created.

We hope everyone has a restful break and safe travels, both near and far. Take this time to unplug and unwind with family and friends! We welcome students back on Monday, April 10.

Reminder, Thursday, April 13, is the end of the third quarter and students will be released two hours early-dismissal at 1:25 PM. There will be no classes for students on Friday, April 14, a student holiday and teacher work day. Friday is also Orthodox Good Friday, which is designated an O day by FCPS. Spring Scholastic Book Fair

Thanks so much to all the parent volunteers who made this Fair possible! I appreciate the support of the community, the teachers who brought their kids to library to make wish lists, the parents who sent in money & funded eWallets so their kids can purchase books during the school day, everyone who supported our classroom libraries by donating a book to a teacher, as well as the families who came out to shop the Fair on Thursday night! Your efforts directly support our own Terra Centre Library, and will help us get hundreds of new books in our library for everyone to enjoy! The Fair will return next Fall!

It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!

Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events—including orientation—in the Spring during March or April. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps schools prepare and ensure they have the teachers and resources on hand that they need on the first day of school.

After determining which school your child will attend, families should prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms, details can be found on the FCPS kindergarten registration webpage. FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, visit the kindergarten registration webpage

Please contact Ms. Dee Cunningham, SIA, to make a kindergarten registration appointment: dmcunningham@fcps.edu

dangers of fentanyl

Community Meeting on the Dangers of Fentanyl

Last month, the division hosted a conversation on the dangers of fentanyl. During this impactful event, audience members heard testimonials from individuals affected by the opioid epidemic and learned facts from medical experts and law enforcement representatives.

The conversation will continue on Monday, April 24, 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Woodson High School. Transportation will be available from select schools throughout the county. View the registration page for details.

Visit our Opioid Awareness webpage for more information. Visit the Fairfax County Government webpage on opioids for information on how you can take action and how to get help for yourself or loved ones.

ESSER Funds Help Students Make Big Gains In Small Groups

Justin, a third-grader, struggled to identify most letters and their sounds in fall 2021 when students returned for the first year of fully in-person instruction since the pandemic began.  After a year of reading intervention services—supported by ESSER COVID relief funding—testing data maintained by his school show he’s made more than two years of progress in his reading skills in one academic year! Read more about how schools are overcoming pandemic-related challenges.

Proposed Updates to Student Rights and Responsibilities

The Department of Special Services will host a virtual meeting for the FCPS community regarding proposed updates to the Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) regulation on Monday, April 10, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Participants will have an opportunity to learn about the suggested updates and ask questions via Zoom Chat. Language interpretation will be available in Spanish. A certified deaf interpreter will be available as well. Please register online.
