Welcome back to all our Fort Hunt Families from Spring Break.  We hope that it was an opportunity for family to be together and celebrate the traditions of your home during this time away from school.  Let’s move into the last quarter of the year with strong on-time attendance and positive Fort Hunt pride in our school, where we are “Kind, Caring, Positive and Honest!”  Glad to have everyone back!

Bienvenidos de nuevo a todas nuestras familias de Fort Hunt de las vacaciones de primavera. Esperamos que haya sido una oportunidad para que la familia esté junta y celebre las tradiciones de su hogar durante este tiempo fuera de la escuela. FHES Purple Up! T-Shirts for Sale

Fort Hunt Purple Up! T-Shirts are available for sale on the Fort Hunt Spirit Wear website.  Purchase a t-shirt to wear on April 19^th, Virginia’s Purple Up! Day for military connected students, and to show your support for our many military connected families year round.

Orders will be taken until April 14th. Additional orders forms are in the Main Office or you can order online using the link below. Cash or check made payable to Fort Hunt Elementary for $18 can be sent to school with the order form. Use Yearbook ID Code: 14445623 when ordering online.

Odyssey of the Mind

This year, one 3rd grade team from Fort Hunt Elementary School entered into the 2023 Odyssey of the Mind competition. The team included: Evelyn Ferguson, Daniella Galligan, Hanna Burroughs, Ava Weatherley, Lily Chambers, and coached by Christina Ferguson. They spent several months creating sets, costumes, mosaics, dances, songs, a script and a giant laserdisc turtle! They competed against 13 teams from other schools ranging from 3rd through 5th graders. And they got 2nd place in their main performance with a score of 185 out of 200! AMAZING job to these ladies! Este año, un equipo de tercer grado de la escuela primaria Fort Hunt participó en la competencia Odisea de la Mente de 2023. El equipo incluía a: Evelyn Ferguson, Daniella Galligan, Hanna Burroughs, Ava Weatherley, Lily Chambers y dirigido por Christina Ferguson. ¡Pasaron varios meses creando escenarios, disfraces, mosaicos, bailes, canciones, un guión y una tortuga gigante con disco láser! Month/Week Long Awareness Events in April

- Month of the Military Child - April is the Month of the Military Child! Every year we take the opportunity to recognize military-connected youth for their service and contribution to our community. Fairfax County Public Schools is proud to have over 14,000 military-connected youth as a part of our student body. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community, and recognize their strength and resilience. Learn more about Month of the Military Child and FCPS’ resources for military families. 

- National Arab American Heritage Month - FCPS is proud to celebrate National Arab American Heritage Month in April. This special month provides an opportunity to recognize the remarkable history and valuable contributions of Arab Americans. Arab Americans have ancestry in one of the world’s 22 Arab nations, which are located from northern Africa through western Asia. The people of these nations are ethnically, politically, and religiously diverse but share a common cultural and linguistic heritage. Learn more about the heritage months, celebrations, and traditions celebrated in FCPS.

- School Library Month - In FCPS libraries, students develop knowledge and skills, experience a sense of belonging, find inspiration and support, and have the ability to freely pursue their personal interests and academic growth. Watch this video to learn how FCPS librarians make a difference.

- Autism Acceptance Month - April is Autism Acceptance Month. One in 44 children is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder in the United States, according to the CDC. Our schools and staff play a vital role in creating and ensuring inclusive environments that accommodate and affirm autistic students.

Eventos de Concientización de un mes/semana en abril

- Mes de los Hijos de Militares - Abril es el Mes de los Hijos de Militares. Cada año aprovechamos la oportunidad para reconocer a los jóvenes vinculados con el ejército por su servicio y contribución a nuestra comunidad. Las Escuelas Públicas del Condado de Fairfax se enorgullecen de contar con más de 14,000 jóvenes con vínculos militares como parte de nuestro alumnado. Apreciamos las variadas experiencias de vida que traen a nuestra comunidad escolar, y reconocemos su fortaleza y resistencia.Averigüen más sobre el Mes de los Hijos de Militares y de los recursos de FCPS para familias militares. 

- Mes Nacional de la Herencia Árabe Americana - FCPS se enorgullece de celebrar el Mes de la Herencia Árabe Americana en abril. Este mes especial ofrece la oportunidad de reconocer la extraordinaria historia y las valiosas contribuciones de los árabes americanos.Los estadounidenses de origen árabe tienen ascendencia en una de las 22 naciones árabes del mundo que se encuentran desde el norte de África hasta Asia occidental. Los pueblos de estas naciones son étnica, política y religiosamente diversos, pero comparten un patrimonio cultural y lingüístico común.Averigüen más sobre los meses de herencia, celebraciones y tradiciones en FCPS.

- Mes de Aceptación del Autismo -Abril es el Mes de Aceptación del Autismo. Uno de cada 44 niños es diagnosticado con un trastorno del espectro autista en los Estados Unidos, según el  CDC. Nuestras escuelas y personal juegan un papel sumamente importante para crear y garantizar ambientes inclusivos que atiendan y reconozcan a los alumnos con autismo. 

SIBSHOPS: In-Person Workshop

SIBSHOPS is an exciting, in-person workshop for brothers and sisters of children with special needs.

The SIBSHOP workshops are for children in grades 2-6 enrolled in Fairfax County Public Schools who have siblings with special needs to:

• Meet other siblings in a relaxed setting.
• Celebrate the many contributions made by brothers and sisters of children with special needs.
• Share sibling experiences and receive peer support.
• Play games and have fun!

Cafeteria Volunteers Needed

Hello Fabulous Fort Hunt Volunteers!  One of our Cafeteria Hostesses will be out for 2 weeks (April 24-May 5) and we could really use an extra set of hands to help out. You will help open lunch items, get forgotten utensils, make sure students stay in seats and raise hands for needed items, etc.
