April 10, News from Sleepy Hollow

April 10, 2023

My Dearest Sleepy Hollow Family,

We hope this newsletter finds you in the best of health and in great spirits.

April is the Month of the Military Child (MOMC). Did you know that Purple Up Day is Wednesday, April 19th this year? On this special day, we encourage staff, student, and parents to wear purple. There are many branches of the military, so why purple? Purple is the combination of Army Green, Marine Corps Red, and the Air Force, Coast Guard, Navy and Space Force Blue. Please join me in saluting our military family members who protect and serve in war-time and in peace so that we may enjoy the freedoms we have today. Remember, “military kids serve too.” We commend our military children for their resilience, bravery, sacrifice, and commitment.

Wishing you an amazing week filled with peace and KINDNESS!

~How do we change the world? One random act of kindness at a time.~  Morgan Freeman

All the best,
Mattie S. Fallen, Principal

Family Life Education Instructional Program Information

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) offers a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through twelfth.  Instruction is seen as a partnership between parents and guardians, the school, and the community to support learning essential for the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.

Parents/guardians may choose to exclude their child from all or part of the Family Life Education program.  Students who are excluded receive age-appropriate, non-punitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices.  If you wish to exclude your child from all or part of FLE for this school year, opt-out forms will be included in your child's back-to-school/orientation packages and are available online for.  Complete the opt-out form and return it to your child's school prior to Family Life Education instruction.

Detailed descriptions of the grade-level program are available online at Elementary (K-6).  FLE grade-level specific lessons and the media for which FCPS has streaming rights are available to parents online at Schoology.  Parents/guardians log in to Schoology with the same username and password as their Student Information System (SIS) parent account.  Grade-level specific lessons are also available at the Fairfax City Regional Library (this location has no means).  Grade-level specific lessons and media that are not streamed online are available for review in your child's school library.  Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.

Questions about the program can be addressed at your child's school or by contacting Instructional Services at 571-423-4550 or fle@fcps.edu
