Annandale HS Student Services Newsletter

Annandale Student Services

Dear Atom Nation,

It’s Spring Break time! Whether you are traveling or staying home, I hope our students and families have a restful and recharging spring break!

When you return, I encourage all our Juniors and their families to attend our Junior Student/Parent College Night on Thursday, April 13 from 6:00-7:30 PM. Students and families will receive critical information about the college application process and how our Annandale staff will support that process. We will also have a panel of admissions representatives from local colleges and universities who will provide valuable insight into the application and admissions processes. As Mark Twain said, “the secret to getting ahead is getting started,” so we hope to see you there!

Erik Healey, Ed.D.

Director of Student Services

Important Dates

Junior Student/Parent Night: Please join us on Thur., April 13, 2023, from 6:00 - 7:30 PM. Our College & Career Specialist, Mr. Yeagley, will talk about how Juniors should prepare for the college application process. After the presentation we will have a panel of admissions representatives from George Mason, Marymount, and Virginia Tech speak about what they look for when reviewing college applications. Students and parents will also have the opportunity to ask the panel questions. The event will take place in Clausen Hall. We hope to see you there! Email Mr. Yeagley at Byeagley@fcps.edu, if you have questions.

Senior Survey on May 1 & 2: Every senior is required to complete the Senior Survey. Student Services uses this information to celebrate the decisions of our graduates, and to send final transcripts to the right colleges. Counselors will visit every senior English class on May 1 & 2 to help students complete the Survey. We understand many students will be taking the IB business exam on those dates, so we will also be coming to IB Business classes on May 3 to catch the students we missed. Please do not complete the Senior Survey before these dates. If you are absent on the day of your English class, you will receive an email notification about make-up days and times for filling out the survey. Note: It is required that all seniors complete the survey by May 20. Seniors who have not completed the survey will be unable to pick up their cap and gown for graduation. If you have questions or concerns, please email Brian Yeagley, College and Career Specialist, at byeagley@fcps.edu

Students are encouraged to take the test because it is a valuable career assessment tool which can help identify which career is best for each student. Though the test is developed by the Department of Defense, it is not just for those going into the military. It’s a great start to finding the perfect career for students by highlighting those skills which students naturally have. To sign up for the ASVAB test you may go see your school counselor or contact your local recruiter, Staff Sergeant Meas at 703-424-8923.
