We are Better Together!
Dear Island Creek Community,
It’s hard to believe that the start of the first quarter is Monday. Your children have grown so much and the Island Creek Staff looks forward to supporting each student during the last 2 months of school.
If you have information that you believe is pertinent to your child’s placement for next year, please complete this form by Friday, May 12. Please reach out directly to me should you have any questions.
There will be no school next Friday, April 21. Eid al-Fitr, marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting, and is celebrated during the first three days of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar. Eid al-Fitr is from sunset April 20 to sunset April 21. Read more at Britannica.com.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to welcoming our Island Creek Crocs back to school on Monday!
Your Proud Principal,
Jen Fallert
April is The Month of the Military Child!
Join us in showing support for our military children during "Purple Up" day on Wednesday, April 19! Wear purple to show your support!
Every year we take the opportunity to recognize military-connected youth for their service and contribution to our community. Fairfax County Public Schools is proud to have more than 14,000 military-connected youth as a part of our student body. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community, and recognize their strength and resilience.
To show our support for all military-connected families, we are inviting all Fairfax County students, families, employees, and community members to “Purple Up!” and wear purple on Wednesday, April 19. Why purple? Purple symbolizes all branches of the military as a combination of Army green, Marine Corps red, and Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force, and Space Force blue.

Class Placement: Parent/Guardian Input
Our staff will be starting to create tentative class groupings this spring, with classroom assignments finalized in mid-August. As we make these placements, we consider many factors including individual student information, teacher input, and social relationships. Every class will have a blend of children with diverse needs, personalities, and learning interests. Due to the many factors we must consider in creating classroom placements, including the staffing of our teachers, requests for a specific teacher cannot be honored.
If you have information that you believe is pertinent to your child’s placement for next year, please complete this form by Friday, May 12. There is no need to complete the form if you do not have any information you would like us to consider.

Screening for School-Based AAP Services
Screening for school-based AAP services (Levels II & III) is done schoolwide in the spring to determine services for the next school year. Parents or guardians may initiate the screening for school-based (level II and III) services by submitting the AAP School-Based Services (Level II-III) Referral Form to the Advanced Academics Resource Teacher (AART) at Island Creek ES prior to spring screening, no later than Friday, April 28, 2023. Please see the AAP Spring Newsletter and the AAP website for more information about AAP Programs and levels of service. Multiple criteria are used to screen students for all levels of AAP services. Parents or guardians who submit a referral will be notified by Island Creek of their student’s eligibility status by Friday, June 2, 2023. If you have any questions or to submit the referral form, please contact the AART, Amy Ivey, at amivey@fcps.edu.
