Hello Shrevewood Families,
Our students and staff had a blast today during game day and learned a lot of fun facts about our staff! Who know that our Reading Specialist, Ms. Duggan, participated in a Dance-a-Thon for 46 hours straight, and one of our Instructional Assistants, Ms. Clark, won a water drinking contest when she was younger?! Thank you to our parent volunteers who helped out throughout the day.
As a reminder, next week, April 3-7 is Spring Break. Schools and school offices will be closed. Students will return to school on Monday, April 10, 2023. We hope you are all able to take this time to connect as a family and have a wonderful weekend and a fabulous Spring Break!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Joshua DeSmyter, Principal
Katie Vandawalker, Assistant Principal
We have noticed an increase in families parking in the side parking lot and walking their child to the main entrance at the beginning and end of the day. As a reminder, students coming to school in a car need to be dropped off and picked up at Kiss and Ride on the side of the building. Walkers should be dropped off and picked up by the blacktop near the playground. Students cannot be dropped off or picked up on Shreve Road. It is important to follow these practices to ensure the safety of all children and to minimize the traffic in the parking lots and in the entrance of the building.
Do your kids like sports? Legos? Do they have an interest in cooking? Science?
Shrevewood PTA is pleased to offer before and after school programs again with our partner, Baroody Camps, Inc. Registration for the Spring Session begins today and ends on April 5th! See all of this spring's offerings here.
Above is our SOL schedule for this Spring. If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or appointments that will take your child out of school on a day when they are testing. If you have any questions about SOL testing, please contact Katie Vandawalker at kmvandawalke@fcps.edu.
Next week, our Positivity Project lessons during Morning Meeting will be focusing on the character strength of Humor. Humor means you like to laugh and bring smiles to other people.
Questions that you can discuss with your child include:
- How does laughter help with healing?
- Can an individual sense of humor benefit our society? Why or why not?
- How does humor impact relationships between people?
“Humor is mankind's greatest blessing.“
-Mark Twain
We will host our Kindergarten Orientation on Thursday, April 13th, from 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm.
Use this Sign Up to schedule a registration appointment for your soon to be Wise Owl. If you have a neighbor or friend with a rising Kindergarten student, please pass along this information!
In elementary school, kindergarten-sixth grade students' phones must be silenced and in backpacks for the duration of the school day. Watches that serve a dual purpose (e.g., smart watch) may be worn; however, phone features (e.g., texting, Internet, calls, etc.) are to be off during the school day. Students are prohibited from using phones, smart watches, tablets, and other mobile devices in restrooms, the cafeteria, and at recess unless there is a true emergency. The full SR&R can be accessed online at: https://www.fcps.edu/srr
In case you missed it in FCPS This Week, the school division shared updates on the following topics:
- Dr. Reid Reflects on her First Year
- ESSER COVID Relief Funds at Work
- Student Awards
Read FCPS This Week to learn more about these topics. If you are not already receiving the weekly newsletter, sign up today.
We will be recognizing and honoring our students' birthdays monthly. For the safety of all students and staff in our building and to limit the amount of classroom disruptions, please do not send in food or toys for your child's birthday.
