Spirit Night

The stands were filled Friday night as the Willows took on the Foxes for our WSES Spirit Night. #WillowPride

Dear Willow families,

We hope you're all enjoying this fantastic spring weather and taking some time to get outside and play. We are giving a big shout-out to everyone who came out to support our school and community at Friday's Spirit Night. You all blew us away with your enthusiasm and energy!

We were especially impressed by the jump rope experts who showed off their incredible skills, led by the remarkable Ms. Shultz and supported by Ms. Stough all year. And how about our orchestra students? They gave us goosebumps with their beautiful rendition of the National Anthem, conducted by the talented Ms. Plunkett and Ms. Venne. And let's highlight our cub scouts who presented the colors with pride.

A huge high-five to Mr. Burda and Mr. Silvis for partnering with the PTA to plan such a fun event and our fantastic staff, who showed off their basketball skills in the staff game. You all rock!

We also want to thank our PTA and community for all your support and contributions to our school. You are truly appreciated, and we couldn't do what we do without you.

We want to give a round of applause to our twelve sixth graders (Aleen, Kaavya, Arsema, Meesha, Betty, Julia, Riya, Annie, Kiyani, Esther, Sauren, and Maahi) who participated in the All County Choral Festival. You all did a great job; we're so proud of your hard work and dedication. And a big thank you to our music teachers, Ms. Berra and Ms. Young, for helping our vocalists shine.

Looking ahead, we've got some exciting things coming up. Remember that Wednesday, March 29, is spring portrait and class picture day. And Spring Break is just around the corner from April 3-7. We hope you all have a chance to rest, recharge, and come back ready to rock the rest of the school year.

Thank you to everyone who helps make our school community a terrific place. We can't wait to keep working together and having fun!

Thank you,

Dylan Taylor, Principal

Lesley Hassen, Assistant Principal

Ipsa Stringer, Assistant Principal

E.A.R.S. at Willow Springs

EARS Image

Our teachers, staff, and administrators are reminding our students of what E.A.R.S. looks and sounds like in all areas of our school day. At the beginning of the month, the admin team met with individual grade levels to revisit our FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R), highlighting some of the following topics:

  • FCPS K-6 cell phone policy
  • Dress code (including removal of hats and hoods inside of the building unless for religious, cultural, or medical reasons)

We are grateful for our partnership with families, and we encourage parents and caregivers to join us in reviewing E.A.R.S. and the SR&R at home.

Please do not hesitate to contact any of our staff members with questions.

WSES and The Positivity Project

P2 logo

Each week our students engage in authentic learning around one of The Positivity Project's 24 character strengths. Students are exposed to our P2 resources in their homeroom, during specials (music, band/strings, art, P.E., FLES, STEAM, and library), on our student-led WSES News Show, and in conversations throughout their day.

Consider asking your child these questions each week:

  • What is this week's P2 character strength?
  • What are some ways that you demonstrated that character strength this week?
  • How have you seen other people show that character strength?

If you would like to dig deeper, practice, and encourage the character strengths with your child even more, please visit the Positivity Project's P2 for Families (password: P2), where you will watch a video, read a quote, and discuss the answers to three questions.

Update Your Emergency Care Information Through weCare@school

Fairfax County Public Schools provides weCare@school (weCare), an emergency care information system, to parents/caregivers who have registered for their own parent account. weCare helps manage emergency medical information by allowing parents to enter and update their children’s medical data online at their convenience. That contact information automatically enrolls parents/caregivers to receive eNotify communications from the district and their child’s school. eNotify is the communications tool for FCPS emergency, transportation, attendance, weather closing and delay, and essential outreach messages. Messages are sent via email, text, and occasionally phone.

Learn more about updating your emergency care information.

Proposed Updates to Student Rights and Responsibilities

Last week, we shared information about the Department of Special Services’ virtual meetings regarding proposed updates to the Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) Regulation for the 2023-24 school year. The meeting scheduled for Monday, March 27, 6:30-7:30 p.m. is currently on hold. Please stay tuned for details.

Parent Information Lines Available in Eight Languages

Parents who speak Amharic, Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Korean, Spanish, Urdu, or Vietnamese can call a telephone information line for general information about FCPS and to receive support if they are having difficulty communicating with their children's schools due to a language barrier.

Registration Open for Virtual Strategic Planning Community Forums

FCPS CARES

FCPS Cares

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for families, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees at Willow Springs Elementary. We love our staff members; let's tell them how we feel!
