A Note from Mrs. Quigley

Dear Franklin Sherman Families,

With the cherry blossoms in bloom, spring is definitely in the air.  We are beginning the important process of planning for next year while staying focused on this year as well.  Please pay particular attention to the information below for Kindergarten Orientation and share with any neighbors who may have rising kindergarten students.

We are beginning the process of creating our classroom groupings for next year.  This task involves teachers, specialists, counselors and administrators.  Your input and insights about the needs of your child are also important.  Parents are invited to complete the Parent Input for Class Placement form (one per child) by April 14, 2023 to share your input on your child's placement for next year.  Requests for specific teachers will not be honored.

We hope you and your families have a wonderful Spring Break!

Ms. Quigley

COVID Test Kits for Distribution to Families

Schools in FCPS have a supply of soon expiring (April 18) test kits that will be replaced in accordance with county and state guidelines. FSES has an inventory that we have been encouraged to give away prior to Spring break.

If your family is planning to travel or attend large gatherings during spring break, and you would like to ensure your child is healthy before returning to school, please use this form to request these kits and we will send them home with your child in advance of spring break. Complete this Google Form to request up to 1 kit per child at FSES.  Kits will be distributed on a first come first serve basis and are only available while supply lasts.

News from Our PTA

Support International Night

Friday, May 5 @ 6-8 p.m.

International Night is a treasured Franklin Sherman tradition that celebrates our wonderfully diverse community. At International Night families host tables to showcase their culture -- from sharing bites of favorite recipes, to dressing in traditional clothing, to providing a fun game, to handing out flags/balloons/stickers, to sharing posters with fun facts...the possibilities are endless. Families tour the tables and get a taste of other cultures.

No matter where you’re from, please consider volunteering to make this year better than ever. Whether you host a table or assist with set up, your help in any capacity shows our enthusiasm for the diversity in our community.

We are also searching for talent to perform. Does your student participate in an after school activity that is culturally diverse? (examples: Indian dance, Irish dance, tae kwon do, karate...) If so, please email Adrienne Dreyfuss.

Spring After-School Activities

Art Club with Miss Pam

Registration for the Franklin Sherman Art Club with Miss Pam is now open. Classes will be offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays from April 19 to May 31. No other activities will be offered in the spring.

Internet Content Filtering and Usage Reports for Parents

Did you know?  There is an online service that is free to FCPS parents who are interested in knowing more about their child’s internet activity on an FCPS device. Parents can sign up to receive a weekly Parent Report from Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service, which will provide a list of the top sites the child visited that week.

Additionally, if parents wish to get more detailed information, the weekly Parent Report offers parents the ability to self-sign-up to the free Internet Use Parent Portal. Parents who sign up for the Internet Use Parent Portal can log-in any time to see a little more detail about their child’s internet browsing. The portal also offers the parent added ability to “pause” access to the internet during non-school hours on the FCPS device.

Learn more about this and other Digital Citizenship and Safety topics on the FCPS website.
