 Honoring Our Scouts
This week we were honored to have an Arrow of Light (AOL) Graduation and Crossover ceremony at Lees Corner The Arrow of Light Graduation and Crossover ceremony is to honor Cub Scouts who have earned Cub Scout's highest rank. After earning the Arrow of Light, the Cub Scout is ready to become a Boy Scout (Scouts BSA). The Arrow of Light plaque is given in recognition of the Cub Scout's accomplishments as he graduates from Cub Scouting.
We had 16 Cub Scouts graduate, many who are 5th graders at LCES. Congratulations to these students!
A Note from Music
As we continue to celebrate Music in Our Schools Month, we want to highlight some activities we are doing in various grade levels.
In our 3rd grade classes we have been learning to play the recorder and play with a good tone. We also enjoyed a double circle folk dance called “Little Shoemaker.”
Our 5th graders have been working hard, learning to play the ukulele, both melodies and chords. They also recently did a Mexican stick dance.
Our 6th graders have been playing challenging pieces of music on the barred instruments, playing several parts at a time.
Our adapted Music classes have been working on improving our singing, playing, and movement skills. We listen to lots of different types of music, responding to the music with movement, and by naming what we hear.

 STEAM News
In celebration of Pi Day, our 6th graders collaborated with Ms. Cowett’s and Ms. Lane’s classes to create a paper chain as a visual representation of the number π (pi). Students followed a color code, in which each color represented a different digit. In the end, the students assembled a paper chain that represented the first 2,347 digits of π. It was a fun way to explore the irrational number with an unplugged coding challenge!

Changing our state of consciousness is part of the human experience (kids spinning in circles to induce dizziness, meditation, runner’s high, and more) but using substances has more negative than positive side effects.
