Post-Secondary Planning for Juniors Night
- WHAT: College Admissions and Post-Secondary Representatives Panel (UVA, UMW, CNU, WVU, Elon, NOVA, ACE, Military)
- WHERE: Herndon High School Auditorium
- WHEN: Monday, March 27, 2023
- TIME: 6:30pm – 8:30pm; Please begin arriving by 6:20pm. We will begin promptly to honor everyone’s time.

Herndon and South Lakes High Schools will join together to offer our junior families a comprehensive program to prepare you and your student for planning for after high school. Students are welcome and encouraged to attend if possible.
Junior Student Meeting with School Counselors
Counselors will meet with their respective students on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 (during TA/Stinger) to review post-secondary options and planning.
Support the "Teacher Lunch" Fund
The HHS PTSA is asking for your support to help celebrate the teachers and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week in May. Please contribute to the "Teacher Lunch" fund so we can bring the whole staff of 250 a catered lunch on May 5th!

HUMC Free Tutoring Program
TGFT will remain virtual for the start of the 2022-23 school year, with sessions being held every Wednesday. Information regarding the program can be found on our website: herndonumc.org/tgft. As in the past, we offer assistance in all math subjects, chemistry, and physics. We want to help your students be successful this year! Additional information available here.

From the Library
As the observance of Ramadan begins this week, the library will be an alternate location for students who are fasting and prefer not to be in the cafeteria for their lunch period. Fasting students who do not already have a permanent lunch pass to the library can talk with the library staff about a temporary pass for their planner.
Spring break is approaching quickly. Encourage your student to have plenty of great reading on hand. Books checked out now are not due until after spring break. In addition to physical books, we offer ebooks and e-audiobooks that your student can enjoy on a personal device. We’ve got something for everyone!
Are your students conducting research in their classes? Please remind your students that there are fantastic research supports available through their HHS Library course on Schoology. They can always reach us at hhs_library@fcps.edu to schedule one-on-one support.

Herndon Pyramid Concert
What: Herndon Pyramid Concert
When: April 11, 2023 at 7 pm
Where: Herndon Middle School Auditorium
Come and attend the Herndon Band Pyramid Concert with family and friends! To mark the 75th Anniversary of the Pride of Herndon band, a special composition has been commissioned by the HHSBPA, which is being performed for the first time with the elementary and middle school students at the Pyramid Concert. This event is free for all.
Quarter End, Early Release/Orthodox Good Friday
Reminder, Thursday, April 13, is the quarter end and students will be released two hours early. There will be no classes for students on Friday, April 14, a student holiday and teacher work day. March Madness
What is binge drinking? Binge drinking refers to consuming a large amount of alcohol quickly. It’s a practice that pushes up blood alcohol levels fast. For men, binge drinking is typically five or more drinks in two hours. Women reach a blood alcohol level of .08 or more with four drinks in two hours or less.
Why is binge drinking risky? Teenagers who binge-drink even once are at higher risk of: getting alcohol poisoning. not being able to look after themselves while drunk. taking dangerous risks and having accidents – for example, being killed on the road while walking home drunk.
What can you do to help stop? Stop Teenage Drinking: 10 ways to keep your kid safe:
1. Talk to your kids, not at them. 2. Education is key. 3. Help teens understand the risk 4. Get involved 5. Be a positive influence 6. Eliminate Temptation 7. Be aware of the warning signs 8. Establish clear rules 9. Teach refusal skills 10. Create and commit to a family pledge.
