Principal Message

Dear Marshall Road Families,

We hope you enjoyed the sunny weather this weekend.  There is a sense of excitement  in the building today as students and staff welcome spring and the many opportunities it brings.  We look forward to growing and learning with your children this spring!

Students and staff enjoyed the return of the salad bar last week and were excited to choose from a variety of healthy food options!  Last week we also began the Cafeteria Kindness Challenge for entire classes to participate in.  Classes receive a thumbs up when they have a good experience in the cafeteria.  At the end of this week, the class with the most thumbs up will win a special lunch experience that will feel like a restaurant with servers, tableware and special dessert in a mystery location.  Please ask your child how their class is doing in our challenge and encourage them to continue working hard.  We are proud of the ways our students are showing kindness and respect in the cafeteria.

Please mark your calendars for the Marshall Road production of Star Force.  Family and friends are welcome to attend a performance on Wednesday, March 29 or Thursday, March 30 at 7:00 pm.  Students will see the play during the school day but feel free to bring your children back for an evening performance.  We are so proud of Ashton Schaffer, the director, who is a MRES graduate and we are especially proud of our 5th and 6th students who have been working each day to put this performance together.

Have a great week.

Peace.

Seeking Nominees for the 2023-2024 PTA Board

The MRES PTA has five Board positions: President, Vice President of Membership, Vice President of Events and Volunteers, Treasurer, and Secretary.  We are currently seeking nominees for the 2023-2024 school year.  Anyone interested in serving, can reach out to our current board members with questions (see emails here).  In particular, we are hoping to find a nominee for Treasurer.

Nominations will be taken at our next PTA meeting on April 12.  Elections will be at our May 24 PTA meeting.

Family Reading Challenge

The PTA is continuing our 5-week Family Reading Challenge!  Throughout the challenge we will share with you some resources and activities to help diversify your home libraries and discover new books to help expand your child’s understanding of the world around them.  This is part of the National PTA Family Reading Experience, sponsored by Office Depot OfficeMax.

This week we are focusing on selecting stories written by the group of people that the book is about (Goal 3 from the National PTA’s Family Guide to Selecting Diverse Books). To explore this goal, for early elementary students, we recommend the book We Are Water Protectors by Carole Lindstrom and Michaela Goade.  For upper elementary students, we recommend the books Front Desk by Kelly Yang and Frizzy by Claribel Ortega.

As you follow along with us the next few weeks, we hope you will use this Family Reading Challenge activity to keep track of the books you read and record your progress as you explore new books with diverse characters and storylines.  We invite you to join us to learn and discuss more on this topic at our next PTA meeting on April 12.
