Gunston ES recognizes that students who celebrate Ramadan may need a quiet space for prayer or reflection during the school day. We also know that some of our students who are fasting may also want an alternative to going into the cafeteria during lunch. Please let your child’s teacher know if either of these options is something your child needs.
This year, the first day of Ramadan is Wednesday, March 22. Ramadan is the most sacred month of the year, a time for spiritual discipline for Muslims, who believe it was during this month that God revealed the first verses of the Quran to Mohammed. Exciting News!
We are so excited that beginning this week, parents will be able to come and have lunch with their child in the cafeteria. Please note that we needed to make changes to our process as our student population has grown in numbers which limits our seating at tables. We look forward to seeing you in the cafeteria and appreciate in advance you following these guidelines:
- Please only come on the assigned days for your grade levels in order to be able to accommodate as many families as possible. (see chart below)
- You must check into the office with your drivers license and wear a visitor’s pass the entire time you are in the building.
- You should enter the cafeteria at the class designated time and sign out of the office when the class lines up for dismissal from the lunch tables.
- The cafeteria has two tables designated for families. Your student will join you at the family table. Please do not invite other students to join you as this is time for you and your child.
- Please do not share any food with other students as this is a safety concern.
- Please follow our rules and remain from talking when the music is playing.
- You are welcome to buy a school lunch at the following cost: $4.50 for an adult meal. You may pay by cash, check or child’s account. NO credit cards or debit cards.
