Calendar Reminders
2022-2023 School Year Calendar
March 22- April 21 - Ramadan
(½ O Day on March 22, O Day March 23)
This year, the first day of Ramadan is Wednesday, March 22. Ramadan is the most sacred month of the year, a time for spiritual discipline for Muslims, who believe it was during this month that God revealed the first verses of the Quran to Mohammed. Read more about Ramadan in National Geographic Kids.
Ramadan begins with a half “O Day” on March 22, followed by an O Day on March 23. The school calendar recognizes many religious and cultural observances (O days) during the school year. There is school on these days, however, the School Board has directed that tests, quizzes, field trips, graduation, homecoming, or FCPS-scheduled athletic events will not be held on these observance days. Half-O days are full school days, but important events will not be held after school on those days.
The Council for Art Education (CFAE) administers Youth Art Month. Youth Art Month encourages support for quality school art programs, and promotes art material safety. The program provides a medium for recognizing skills developed through visual arts experiences unlike any other curriculum subjects, including:
- Problem solving
- Creativity
- Observation
- Communication
Art shows, special exhibits, fundraisers, and school and community activities take place annually, traditionally during March, to celebrate visual art education for grades K-12.
National Women's History Month
|
Every year, March is designated Women’s History Month by presidential proclamation. The month is set aside to honor women’s contributions in American history.

MS Clubs & Activities Program

After-School Activities
Students must sign-up for clubs in the morning on Schoology each day that they plan on attending unless they are part of music or fine arts ensembles. Once students arrive to the club location at dismissal, they must sign-in to attendance for safety purposes. Please encourage your child to follow this simple 2 - step process for safe and fun activities after the school day ends.
Middle school activities run on late bus days - Monday, Wednesday, and Thursdays.
With spring sports now in full swing, the middle school will increase its weekly sports opportunities for students to attend after-school! Please check Schoology each day that you plan on attending in the afternoon. In the event of inclement weather, high school sports will be in the fieldhouse and middle school sports activities will be cancelled for the day.
Please contact Scott Wilson for additional information, stwilson@fcps.edu| (703)-426-2339.
The After-School Activities weekly list for 3rd quarter, permission form, and student directions for registering for clubs are all located on the Schoology Grades 7, 8 group pages under Resources and the main announcements page. Please make sure the Permission & Registration Form is completed prior to attending any after-school clubs.
