Greetings, Braddock Families!

Hope this communication finds you and your family well. We feel very ‘lucky’ to have each of you as part of our Braddock Family! 🍀🍀

As the spring weather finally comes back our students start to get ‘Spring Fever' as it starts to feel like Summer Break is closer than it really is. We ask that you continue to remind your child about the three Braddock Expectations:

  1. Be Safe
  2. Be Respectful
  3. Be Responsible

We are reviewing these expectations in class each day and we thank you for your support.

Main Office Opening

Hope this communication finds you and your family well. We are proud to announce that our Main Office will be opening when we return from Spring Break. During the week of April 10th through April 14th, we respectfully ask that you be patient with our front office staff, as they will be unpacking and setting up in their new space.

Our grand opening will take place in the Fall of 2023!

Bike to School

Wednesday, May 3rd is Bike to School Day! FCPS is encouraging students to strap on a helmet and lace up their shoes for National Bike & Roll to School Day. Additionally, we are pleased to announce that Braddock ES has three bike stations where students who wish to ride their bikes can store and lock their bikes. The bike stands are located between the cafeteria and the main entrance. For safety reasons, we have a camera that will monitor the bikes and any activity going on in that area.

Parking Lots & Walk Paths will be Paved Over Spring Break

Over spring break, both parking lots will be paved by our renovation team. Therefore, we respectfully ask you to NOT park your car in either parking lot over Spring Break. If you choose to do so, you are doing it at your own risk and the possibility of being TOWED. Thank you for your cooperation.

POG Family Corner

As part of our school's SIIP (School Innovation and Improvement Plan) students are working on growing their Portrait of a Graduate Skills. In the coming weeks, we will be digging into these attributes and the skills that go with each one, and some ways to engage your child in POG skills at home.

POG

Let's Start with the Basics:

What is Portrait of a Graduate (POG)? POG prioritizes the development of skills that will empower students to be productive citizens of a global community and successful in the workforce of the future.

What are the POG Attributes?

  • Communicator
  • Collaborator
  • Ethical and Global Citizen
  • Creative and Critical Thinker
  • Goal-Directed and Resilient Individual

How do students engage in POG?

A goal of FCPS is to provide opportunities for students to demonstrate understanding and learning of these attributes in authentic ways. Each POG is  made up of skills that help guide students towards mastery of each attribute. FCPS scaffolds these skills starting in Pre-K to help students develop age appropriate skills as they advance through school.  Teachers work to enhance learning opportunities and identify when students are using the POG attributes during their daily learning. In each classroom, students will learn about the skills, including what they look like and why they are important. They will apply the skills while learning. Students will reflect on how the skills helped them find success and what they can do to grow.

Do students focus on all 5 attributes at the same time?

As we continue to engage in this work, our students will work with multiple attributes at a time. However, this year, BES students are focusing on skills that go along with the attributes Communicator and Creative and Critical Thinker.
