Lynbrook Principal's Newsletter

Message from Mrs. Sain

Lego

Hello Lynbrook Families,

It has been perhaps the most important week here at Lynbrook…Lenny the Leprechaun has visited! Students were exceptionally proud to be Leprechauns this week as we all waited in joyful anticipation for his visit this Friday! We are very proud to be the only Leprechauns in the state of Virginia, that is for sure.

This week our school SBTS, Mrs. Baxter has been working on a LEGO Spike robotics unit with some of our 5th graders. What the kids are exploring is phenomenal and the future is looking bright with these future engineers!

We also want to thank our families who came out to Family Music Day for students in Kindergarten and 1st Grade! Sharing our love of music education with students and families is always a fantastic time for all. Thank you to our phenomenal music team of Ms. LaFleur and Ms. Deaton for dreaming up and planning this opportunity!  Here is a video for you to enjoy of this event.

We wish you a great weekend and look forward to the official start of spring next week!

With gratitude,

Kathleen

Celebrating Arts in Our Schools

Arts in Our Schools

The Council for Art Education (CFAE) administers Youth Art Month. Youth Art Month encourages support for quality school art programs, and promotes art material safety. The program provides a medium for recognizing skills developed through visual arts experiences unlike any other curriculum subjects, including:

  • Problem solving
  • Creativity
  • Observation
  • Communication

Art shows, special exhibits, fundraisers, and school and community activities take place annually, traditionally during March, to celebrate visual art education for grades K-12.

March has also been designated by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) for the observance of Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®), the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools across the nation. The purpose of MIOSM is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children – and to remind citizens that school is where all children should have access to music. MIOSM is an opportunity for music teachers to bring their music programs to the attention of the school and the community, and to display the benefits that school music brings to students of all ages.

Ramadan

This year, the first full day of Ramadan is March 22. Ramadan is the most sacred month of the year for Muslims, who believe it was during this month that God revealed the first verses of the Quran, Islam's sacred text, to Mohammed, on a night known as "The Night of Power." During the entire month of Ramadan, Muslims fast every day from dawn to sunset. It is meant to be a time of spiritual discipline — of deep contemplation of one's relationship with God, extra prayer, increased charity and generosity, and intense study of the Quran. Read more about Ramadan in National Geographic Kids.

This year, Ramadan begins with a half O Day on March 22, followed by an O Day on March 23. The school calendar recognizes many religious and cultural observances (O days) during the school year. There is school on these days, however, the School Board has directed that tests, quizzes, field trips, graduation, homecoming, or FCPS-scheduled athletic events will not be held on these observance days. Half-O days are full school days, but important events will not be held after school on those days.
