Terra Centre Families,

We are excited to announce that our salad bar will be returning on March 28th! This is a wonderful way for our students to try new fruits and vegetables when purchasing a school lunch. We are preparing students for the return with a video provided by FCPS Food and Nutrition Services and showing students the salad bar in the cafeteria. Curious what's on the menu? Access the menu here: FCPS nutrislice.

Thank you to our 2nd grade families and PTA for a wonderful Panera luncheon this past Thursday!

As a reminder, April 3-7 is spring break. Schools and school offices will be closed. Students will return to school on Monday, April 10, 2023. See the complete 2022-23 school year calendar.

This year, the first day of Ramadan is Wednesday, March 22. Ramadan is the most sacred month of the year, a time for spiritual discipline for Muslims, who believe it was during this month that God revealed the first verses of the Quran to Mohammed. Spring Book Fair

We’re getting excited for the Spring Scholastic Book Fair!  We are looking for parent volunteers to help make the Fair a success! We need help with pre-Fair preparations on 3/22-24, during the week of the Fair, 3/27-3/31, and, of course, during our Book Fair Family Night! Book Fair Family Night is occurring from 5:30-7:30pm, alongside our wonderful PTA’s Books, BBQ, & Bingo event on Thursday evening, 3/30.

If you are able to help out, please read the information on our Sign-Up Genius website to learn about time slots and specific jobs that we need help with! As with every year, the Terra Centre Library benefits directly from the funds raised, so supporting the Fair is also supporting the library!

Link: Volunteer Sign Up

More information is to come about the Fair, but I appreciate you looking ahead to see if you are able to volunteer that week!

Thanks,
Allison Petruzzellis
Librarian & Scholastic Book Fair Chairperson

It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!

Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events—including orientation—in the Spring during March or April. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps schools prepare and ensure they have the teachers and resources on hand that they need on the first day of school.

After determining which school your child will attend, families should prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms, details can be found on the FCPS kindergarten registration webpage. FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, visit the kindergarten registration webpage

Please contact Ms. Dee Cunningham, SIA, to make a kindergarten registration appointment: dmcunningham@fcps.edu

Community Meeting on the Dangers of Fentanyl

Monday, March 13, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid and Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis hosted nearly 400 families, staff, and community members for a conversation on the dangers of fentanyl. During this impactful event, audience members heard testimonials from individuals affected by the opioid epidemic and learned facts from medical experts and law enforcement representatives.  The conversation will continue on Monday, April 24, with our next community meeting on the critical topic of fentanyl danger and opioid awareness. More information is coming soon. Visit our Opioid Awareness webpage for updates as they become available. Visit the Fairfax County Government webpage on opioids for information on how you can take action and how to get help for yourself or loved ones.

Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!

This year, spring break is April 3-7. We will be eager to welcome your children back in school on Monday, April 10. Their attendance is very important. Every day, our teachers will be teaching, and students will be learning. Studies have shown that just two absences per month can cause students to fall behind. Let’s finish this school year strong. Visit FCPS’ website for attendance resources
