Attendance Matters!

As we head into the final months of the school year, please remember that attendance drives everything! It is tied to almost every aspect of school performance and future outcomes.

Both EXCUSED and UNEXCUSED absences count against your child’s attendance total. Missing 10% or 2 days a month can affect a student’s academic success. Please try to set appointments, sport activities and vacations for after school, during breaks or in the summer to prevent interruption in the student’s learning.

Please remember to notify the school when your child will be out.

FCPS Cares

Congratulations...

To Drew Lisowski for being recognized as an employee who shows that FCPS Cares!

Drew Lisowski chaired the District 10 State Orchestra Assessment event this past Friday March 3rd and Saturday March 4th, which was hosted at Hayfield SS. Drew had to organize all of the orchestras, create a schedule for all of the orchestras in District 10, hire orchestra adjudicators, as well as many other things. It takes hours and hours of work to put an event like this together for the District, and Drew worked many hours, especially outside of the contract time, to make sure the event was well-run for everyone. Thank you Drew for all of your hard work for the District 10 State Orchestra Assessment.

Judges Needed for Regional Science and Engineering Fair

The Fairfax County Regional Science and Engineering Fair, held March 17-19, is a competition for students attending high schools in Fairfax County. Students may earn honorable entry to the regional competition through a science fair held at their local public or private school.

Each year 250 judges are required to evaluate science fair projects in a wide variety of categories ranging from plant sciences to robotics. Ideally, those volunteering to serve as category judges would hold an advanced degree or possess extensive academic and/or professional experience in their selected STEM category.

Medicaid Policy Changes

A change in federal Medicaid policy could impact the health care coverage of millions of students. In order to avoid gaps in coverage, families need to know:

  • Families, especially those who have moved residences during the pandemic, should contact their state Medicaid offices to ensure their contact information is up to date.
  • Families should watch their mail for letters about Medicaid and the state Children’s Health Insurance Program, or CHIP, status.
  • Recipients must submit any renewal forms they receive to maintain coverage, which states could mail at any point between March 2023 and February 2024.
  • Families who no longer qualify for Medicaid after the review may qualify for coverage through their state’s health insurance exchange.
