Dear Woodburn Families,

It has been an incredible week of learning for all of our Wildcats.  The building has been buzzing with excitement, student engagement, and a lot to celebrate!

On Wednesday evening, several of our students from Kindergarten through 6th grades were selected to have their artwork displayed at the FCPS Falls Church Pyramid Art Show.  Thank you to our families and community members that were able to come out and celebrate with us!

As we close out the week, we have two grade levels on field trips today!  Our 4th graders are visiting Jamestown and our 5th graders are visiting the Natural History Museum in Washington, DC.

Please contact us if there is anything that our team can do to support your student(s) or family.  Thank you for your continuous partnership.  We hope that you have a wonderful weekend!

Together We Grow,

Katy and Elizabeth

Ms. Manno and "FCPS Teacher Tuesday"

FCPS Social Media Specialists from the Office of Communications and Community Relations surprised and highlighted our very own 4th grade teacher, Amanda Manno, for “FCPS Teacher Tuesday.”   They shared with us that “FCPS Teacher Tuesday” helps  celebrate the outstanding job that teachers throughout the county do. Please join us in celebrating Amanda’s special surprise feature.  Her feature can be found on Facebook.

Calendar Reminder: Ramadan

Ramadan graphic

This year, the first day of Ramadan is Wednesday, March 22. Ramadan is the most sacred month of the year, a time for spiritual discipline for Muslims, who believe it was during this month that God revealed the first verses of the Quran to Mohammed. Read more about Ramadan in National Geographic Kids.

Ramadan begins with a half “O Day” on March 22, followed by an O Day on March 23. The school calendar recognizes many religious and cultural observances (O days) during the school year. There is school on these days, however, the School Board has directed that tests, quizzes, field trips, graduation, homecoming, or FCPS-scheduled athletic events will not be held on these observance days. Half O days are full school days, but important events will not be held after school on those days. See the complete 2022-23 School Year Calendar.

All students at Woodburn Elementary School are offered an alternate space during their lunch period instead of the cafeteria during Ramadan.  Teachers will be checking in with students to learn their preference prior to the start of Ramadan.  Parents are also welcome to call the main office to share any questions or concerns.
