Thank you, thank you, thank you!
This week was National School Social Work week. We extend our gratitude to Melissa Taylor, our school social worker at Crestwood, for all the support she gives to our students and families.
Our library was abuzz this week with books from Reading Is Fundamental (RIF). Students thoroughly enjoyed selecting and reading their RIF books! As Jacqueline Kennedy once said, “There are many little ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all.” Thank you to our librarian, Victoria Spino, for coordinating with the RIF program to provide this opportunity for our students.
Finally, we would like to recognize Kristen Reynolds-Nittle, a reading resource teacher at Crestwood, who was honored at the FCPS School Board meeting this week for being a National Board Certified Teacher. Congratulations, Mrs. Reynolds-Nittle, and thank you for supporting our students and teachers.
Sincerely,
Marguerite Saitta, Principal
Larry Caines, Assistant Principal
Kolette De La Cruz, Assistant Principal

It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!
Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events—including orientation—in the Spring during March or April. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps schools prepare and ensure they have the teachers and resources on hand that they need on the first day of school.
After determining which school their child will attend, families should prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms, details can be found on the FCPS kindergarten registration webpage. FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, visit the kindergarten registration webpage.

The Facts of Lice – Prevent and Control
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) each year an estimated 6 – 12 million children ages 3 – 11 become infested with lice. Lice is most commonly spread by head to head contact with an infested person through playing together at school, on the playground, during sport activities and much more. If your child tells you they feel something in their hair, a tickling feeling, itching or sores on the head from scratching you should inspect for lice (CDC 2020). Click on the link below for more information from the CDC on how you can prevent and control the spread of lice.
