Haycock Hello 3.13.23

nnnnn

Dear Haycock Families,

In March people throughout the United States celebrate Women’s History Month and Disability Awareness Month. Both histories are foundational parts of American history. Students deserve meaningful, sustained opportunities to learn about the experiences and contributions of this history year-round, and the celebration of Women’s History Month and Disability Awareness month are opportunities to honor these diverse and important stories.

Congratulations to our Spelling Finalists who participated in the Haycock Spelling Bee on Friday afternoon.  Many thanks to the PTA and Ms. Courtney Zenz for organizing such a fun event for our students.  Eliza Shah Mohammed, Grade 4 was our finalist and will proceed on to the FCPS Spelling Bee, and Zoe Schall, Grade 5, was our runner up.  Kudos to both Eliza and Zoe, and to all the students who participated.  We are very proud of all of them.

We also celebrated the achievements of the students who participated in the AMC8 Math Competition on Thursday afternoon and all the students whose art was chosen for display at the McLean Community Center. Haycock students demonstrate their passions and talents on a daily basis.  They are amazing!

Finally, please consider joining our parent liaison and school counselors for a virtual parent discussion about the book Where You Go is Not Who You'll Be by Frank Bruni.  We purchased books for parents who signed up, but you are welcome to join us if the topic interests you.  This is the link to join us at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22.

Finally, please join us for a Parent Coffee on Monday, March 20 at 9:30 in the cafeteria.  We will share information on interpreting the VGA results for students in grades 3-6, the Summer SOAR program, and the SOL testing schedule.  We hope to see some of you there.

With appreciation for your partnership,

Liz Beaty, Principal  embeaty@fcps.edu

Heather Boyd, AP  HABoyd@fcps.edu

Jody Delaney, AP jmdelaney@fcps.edu
