Staffing Announcement
We wanted to share an update to our staffing. April Cascio, School Based Technology Specialist (SBTS), recently transferred to a new school as a an SBTS to be closer to home. We want to share our deep appreciation for all Ms. Cascio has done for our GBE community over the last three years! She provided important instructional technology leadership for our entire staff through two historic school years as we fully reopened in-person learning during the pandemic. We will miss her and we know her impact will leave a lasting impression on our school community!
We are excited to announce Kariann Stanton as our new School Based Technology Specialist (SBTS) at GBE! Ms. Stanton has ten years of teaching experience in FCPS and currently teaches 5th grade at Fox Mill Elementary. She received her Bachelor of Education with a concentration in Elementary Education, Special Education, and Social and Behavioral Science from Seton Hall University.
Ms. Stanton brings a wealth of knowledge to GBE as our new SBTS. She has taught 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade at three different elementary schools and she has taught Extended School Year as a special education teacher five times during her career. She will start with us on Thursday, March 16th. She is looking forward to building relationships with staff, students, and our families as we close out this school year strong! Welcome to GBE, Ms. Stanton!

ATTENDANCE MATTERS
- There’s not much we can do about the weather, but there are two key steps every parent can take to help avoid absences this year: Make back-up plans for bad weather and keep your children healthy.
- Absences, even if they are excused, can add up to academic trouble. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school.
- Children who miss too much school in kindergarten are less likely to read well by third grade. By middle school, absenteeism can predict who will graduate from high school.
- A study of weather-related absences in Massachusetts found that each missed day affected a student’s test scores and grades. This was especially true on snowy days when school stayed open but some students missed class.
- Please remember that Friday, March 3rd is a school holiday. We are eager to welcome your children back in school on Monday, March 6th.

Important Reminders
Greenbriar East uses PickUp Patrol for parents to report absences, late arrivals, and early pick-ups.
GBE values PickUp Patrol as it ensures a safe dismissal for all students based on the child's default plan. Please use the link here.
To update your child's default plan to "bus rider", "kiss and ride", or "walker," simply log in and select a dismissal option. Then hit submit and that’s it! Your child's teacher and the main office will be notified. Updating your child's default plan is a one-time action. Use PickUp Patrol regularly to report a plan change, absence, late arrival, or early pick-up. A default plan is NEEDED for all students.
ALL PLAN CHANGES MUST BE SUBMITTED BY 2:15 P.M.
Please contact our main office if you do not have an active account and require a new welcome activation email.
