This week we had a wonderful author visit from Kat Zhang! Students enjoyed hearing about how she became a writer and what inspires her books. Thank you to Ms. Riddile and our PTA for making this event happen!

SCA Little Free Library
As you might have noticed, the SCA Little Free Library is currently out of commission since the door broke off. Mrs. Sniffin is looking for someone handy who is willing to volunteer their time to fix the door. Please see the pictures to identify the work that needs to be done. It seems like a relatively easy fix. The volunteer would be responsible for gathering necessary supplies and repairing the door.
Any money spent will be reimbursed after receipts are submitted. If you have any questions or you're interested in working on this, please contact Mrs. Sniffin at smsniffin@fcps.edu to coordinate working on the repairs. Your help and willingness to volunteer is truly appreciated!

 K.A. Holt Author Visit
K.A. Holt, author of the award-winning book House Arrest will be coming to Poplar Tree to present to fifth and sixth graders on Monday, April 24 and books are available to purchase for signing! Scrawl Books will deliver all book orders to Poplar Tree before the author visit free of charge!
To order, visit https://www.scrawlbooks.com/ka-holt. Enter your information in the delivery address field but make sure to select the Poplar Tree Author Visit option under "Calculate Shipping Cost." Write your student's name, teacher, and how you would like your book personalized by the author in the Order Comments field.
Deadline to order is Sunday, April 16.

A Note About Ramadan for Our Poplar Tree Families
Ramadan, one of the holiest times on the Islamic calendar, begins on March 22nd. If your child needs an alternative space for lunch or prayer during this time, we will accommodate them. Please email their school counselor and they will make arrangements: Mrs. Girellini (Grades 2,3,4: smgirellini@fcps.edu) or Ms. Mertens (Grades K, 1, 5 and 6: eemertens@fcps.edu).
The following tests will be given in March:

Grades 3-6 SEL (Social Emotional Learning) Screener March 1-21* *homeroom teacher can provide information on specific date/time

Grade 5 Integrated Reading-Writing SOL Field Test March 14 @9 a.m.
