This Friday Pine Spring will shine a light on all of the progress our students have made in reading by turning our classrooms into a cozy reading environment with pajamas, blankets and flashlights! Students will have an opportunity to curl up with their favorite book and relax as they pretend to "campout" in their classrooms.
Don't forget to wear your favorite PJs!
As we continue to grow as a community in embedding Advanced Academic throughout our students' day, we want to share some information and strategies that you can use to support your child at home. This month we will focus on Visualizing. If you would like additional information, please reach out to Mrs. Haynes, our Advanced Academic Teacher.
Family Activity
Read aloud to your child, and then have them draw a picture of what they heard! This is a wonderful way to support visualizing as children listen. This is important, even for older students.
Often children start thinking of other topics while they listen, so helping them focus on what is read, and drawing the “movie that you saw in your head” helps them establish good brain routines. Reading in your home language or listening to an Audiobook is great too!
Questions to Support Visualization:
- What mental pictures am I forming?
- How can I use my 5 senses to help me form an image in my mind?
- What did you see when you read the passage?
- What colors did you see as you read?
- What did you see for where the events happened?
- What steps did you see in your mind when….?
