Principal's Message

wise

Hello Shrevewood Families,

On Monday, March 13, Shrevewood parents/guardians will be contacted through email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form Online. This questionnaire is part of the Performance Evaluation Program and offers parents/guardians an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various topics related to our school. These topics include instructional leadership, school climate, management (human resources and organizational), communication and community relations, culturally responsive and equitable leadership, and professionalism.
The questionnaire will be collected online between March 13 and March 24. When you receive an email from FCPS Surveys, please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire. Your opinions matter!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Joshua DeSmyter, Principal

Katie Vandawalker, Assistant Principal

SOL Schedule

sol schedule

Above is our SOL schedule for this Spring. If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or appointments that would take your child out of school on a day when they are testing. If you have any questions about SOL testing, please contact Katie Vandawalker at kmvandawalke@fcps.edu.

Celebration Of Learning

Next week, our Positivity Project lessons during Morning Meeting will be focusing on  the other people mindset and identifying and appreciating the good in others. It’s important to deliberately work to identify and appreciate others’ character strengths.

Questions that you can discuss with your child include:

  • How do you show appreciation to your friends and family?
  • Why is this an important piece of a positive relationship?

“To express your appreciation, sincerely and without the expectation of anything in return. Truly appreciate those around you, and you’ll soon find many others around you.”

-Ralph Marston

Family Life Education Instructional Program Information

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve.  Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.

Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online here. They are also posted in the Shrevewood All Parents Schoology course. Parents/guardians can login to Schoology using the same username and password as their Student Information System (SIS) Parent account. Grade level-specific lessons and media that is not streamed online are available for review at your child’s school library.  Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.

You are invited to attend an evening opportunity to preview the Family Life Education media and lessons and to talk with school staff about the program. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 14 at 6:00 pm in the library. All program materials and media for all grade levels will be available for your review at this time.

Program questions may be addressed by our Assistant Principal, Katie Vandawalker, or by contacting Instructional Services at 571-423-4550 or by contacting Carrie Reynolds, Health and Physical Education Coordinator at cfreynolds@fcps.edu.

Reminder about Cell Phone Use

In elementary school, kindergarten-sixth grade students' phones must be silenced and in backpacks for the duration of the school day. Watches that serve a dual purpose (e.g., smart watch) may be worn; however, phone features (e.g., texting, Internet, calls, etc.) are to be off during the school day. Students are prohibited from using phones, smart watches, tablets, and other mobile devices in restrooms, the cafeteria, and at recess unless there is a true emergency.  The full SR&R can be accessed online at: https://www.fcps.edu/srr
