Congrats to our KG Science Olympiad Team!
We would like to recognize our Science Olympiad Division B team. Three teams from KG went to the Regional Tournament recently and participated in 20 science and engineering events. KG earned 9th place as a school, which earned us the status to advance to the Division B state finals at UVA on March 25. We are thrilled to be part of 24 top middle schools in Virginia who qualified. Thanks to the 44 team members, 16 parent mentors, 8 parent volunteers as assistant event supervisors and to Jeff Shivnen!! Good luck in the state finals!

Reminders ~ Attendance/Dismissal

Sick Children: If your child is sick or displaying signs of an illness, please keep them home. We have many students arriving at school not feeling well and subsequently going home in the morning from the clinic.

Dismissal - if your child is attending an after school program, please remind them that morning. We do have the PTA Enrichment starting tomorrow and we want students to be prepared.

Transportation Changes - If your child has a transportation change, please use this link. The teachers and office will be notified automatically.

Salad Bar is Back! Student Introduction
1. Check the lunch menu in the morning to decide what you would like to eat. 2. Use the hand sanitizer before taking a lunch tray and have clean hands. 3. Begin building a lunch by putting yummy fruits and/or vegetables on your lunch tray with the tongs or spoons for each item. Never use your hands. 4. Fill at least one square on the lunch tray with fruits and/or vegetables. 5. Select from the protein options (cheese, eggs, etc.) if you would like. 6. Carefully, add salad dressing from a squirt bottle to your salad/vegetables. 7. Hold lunch tray with both hands. Move to the lunch line door to enter and take one milk from the cooler by the door if you would like. 8. Pick from one main item/entrée (chicken tenders, pizza, etc.) 9. Say “Hi!” to the cashier and enter your lunch number on the keypad. 10. Ask for a pretzel as part of your meal if you did not take a main item/entrée (chicken tenders, pizza, etc.). 11. Enjoy your salad bar lunch and remember to follow the Salad Bar Rules!
Dear Parents,
We are looking forward to Literacy Night on March 9th. This event will support reading and other literacy activities for both students and parents. Similar to our past STEAM/Math event, our teachers will have opportunities for students and parents to interact with games and fun activities in the classrooms. We will also have Spirit Week beginning on March 6th - wear your mismatched outfit on Monday!. We will have a vocabulary parade in the school on Wednesday! It will be a great event!
Note that we also have the Youth Art Show coming up. Ms. Kladler and Ms. Leavitt have selected student work and will be at the McLean Community Center on the 9th of March from 4:30 -6:00 p.m. The art will be on display from March 1st through the 11th.
We will have our annual practice Tornado Drill on Tuesday morning. It will be brief and on the same day as the state practice.
As we plan for next year, we have begun collecting information to confirm our enrollments for the next school year 2023-24. Please complete this google form if you know or have information to share regarding your child(ren) for the next school year. We only need you to complete if your child is NOT returning to KG.

Youth Art Show - McLean Project for the Arts
March is Youth Art Month! McLean Project for the Arts invites you to celebrate and come see selected work from the McLean Pyramid. The artwork will be displayed at the McLean Community Center, 1234 Ingleside Ave. Students work will be shown March 1 through March 11th.
On Thursday, March 9th, there will be an Art Show Reception from 4:30- 6pm. Ms. Kladler and Ms. Leavitt(Clark) will be there to greet students and parents. On Friday, March 10th the hours will be extended until 7pm.

Kindergarten Registration and Interest 2023-24
We are excited to begin our thinking about 2023-24! Do you have a child at home who will be five by September 30th? Please start your registration now by filling out this google form. If you have any neighbors with little ones, please send this information to them as well. This form simply collects information in order to help us plan for staffing for the next school year.

Kindergarten Orientation and Tour!
Thanks for completing the google form above! We will host a Zoom Parent Orientation meeting on March 31st from 8:00 - 8:30 a.m. We will post the Zoom link as we approach the date. There is no sign up needed for this session.
On April 13th we will hold 'in person' parent tours and a student 'meet and greet' with the teachers from 2:15 - 3:15 p.m. Note that April 13th is a student early release day. It is REQUIRED to sign up to attend with your child(ren) Please complete this google form to sign up. Parents will drop off your child(ren) in a designated kindergarten classroom and our School Student Ambassadors will conduct the parent tours. Students will meet their parents on the playground after the tour. We look forward to seeing you! We will have a bus to tour!

TJHSST - Techstravaganza
Thomas Jefferson is hosting a Techstravaganza, a free STEM activity fair that provides fun, hands-on labs and demonstrations for K-8 students. The 19th annual Techstravaganza will be held on May 13, 2023 from 10 AM to 4 PM at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, VA. Admission is free, food will be for sale.

TEACHER LOVE!
Our teachers and staff are truly the backbone of our school, and we want to shower them with love. The KGES Wellness Committee has shared that teachers love it when there is coffee/tea available, occasionally including a small snack for them in the lounge.
We would like to show #Teacher Love. You can bring in coffee/tea, snacks, bags of mini candies, whatever goodies you think might help sweeten their day. You can also help stack the staff lounge with paper plates, cups, napkins, or other items. Please choose a slot to volunteer and drop off in the Staff Lounge by 8am on Wednesdays to show some love and support for our fabulous teachers and staff. Spring Book Fair!!
The PTA Book Fair is almost here! This year, we’re building Bolder, Prouder, Stronger Readers one page at a time. Our students will get to preview books and shop the Fair from Friday, March 10th to Friday, March17th. We hope you will join us for a before school purchasing event on Tuesday, March 13th from 8 to 8:45 a.m. Additionally, we will have an online Fair that will be available until Thursday, March 23rd. This is a great chance to check out additional titles and help support our school.
Make check-out easy for your family by setting up an E-Wallet. Funds can be added onto the account online and used directly at the book fair. SPRING BOOK FAIR VOLUNTEERS
The PTA Spring Book Fair is coming - March 10-17! Volunteers are needed to help make this a great week for our students and teachers.
From decorating the halls and transforming the library, to helping students throughout the week, and packing up - every volunteer plays an important part.
Our next Book Fair meeting will be March 8th at 8:45am. We'll start in the cafeteria and decorate the halls and the Kiss & Ride areas.
Take note: the Book Fair will run March 10th-17th with a Before School Sales Event on Tuesday 3/14 from 8:00-8:45am!

SUPPORT OUR KG BINGO NIGHT!
Mark your calendars for the Family Bingo Night hosted by the PTA and the 6th Grade Class on Friday, March 24th. We are asking our KG families to donate the prizes to make this night extra fun for our kids and allow us to raise money for the 6th grade end of year celebrations and school community needs. We kindly request new or gently used items in good working order that will be enjoyed by our KG students. Please bring donations to the bin outside of the main office by Monday, March 6th, or to Literacy Night on Thursday, March 9th. Here are some donation ideas but please feel free to bring any donations the kids will love!
