Principals' Message

Dear Families,

Happy March! We truly enjoyed the kickoff to the month by hosting our Dance Extravaganza! It was truly amazing to see all of our talented students and how hard they’ve worked to bring together rhythm and music! We also discovered that our families are so talented too! Thank you for joining us all on the dance floor.

We have enjoyed celebrating Read Across America to kick off the month and have enjoyed connecting with students and families through our celebration of reading. Continue to spend time each night reading with or to your child, it is a great way to have conversations, build vocabulary and spend time together as a family. Thank you to those who joined us at Heritage of Literacy Night and tuned in for our read a-louds this week. We have enjoyed spending time together as a community.

It is that time of year to begin registering for our future Eagles. If you have a rising kindergartner or may know a neighbor who has a rising student, please encourage them to call the school and schedule an appointment to register as soon as possible. We will be hosting Kindergarten Orientation at the end of the month, and the best way to keep families informed is when they are already registered. We look forward to meeting our newest Eagles!

As we begin this month we are still focused on upholding our caring culture. We have been engaging in conversations with students about understanding the importance of our words and how what we say can impact others. Please reinforce with your children that it is not appropriate to tease others, even if they are just joking. As interims come home on March 9th, it is a great time to reflect with your students on their citizenship goals. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your teachers if you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s performance in school. Thank you for your continued support as we navigate the second half of the school year together!

Warmly,

Ms. Rucinski and Mrs. Opie

National School Social Work Week

March 5-10 is National School Social Work Week. Social workers in FCPS help to prevent social, emotional, and behavioral factors from affecting a student's ability to perform at their best. Their primary goal is to remove barriers that prevent a student from fulfilling their academic potential. Social workers are assigned to every school and center in the school system. Most social workers serve one to two sites. Learn more about the role of social workers in FCPS. Please join us to thank Ms. Courtney Marques, our School Social Worker.
