Principal's Message

Good evening, Eagle Community,

We hope your Eagles enjoyed their time home early on Thursday and all day Friday. In Region 5, all of our middle school teachers, administrators, and clerical staff participated in a region-wide professional development at one of the five middle school sites. It was a great event, and time for teachers to collaborate and plan for new lessons in the spring. We can't wait to see what new ideas surface in our classes!!

At the Region 5 Middle School events at each school, we were able to award door prizes that were graciously donated by the following vendors listed below.  A special thank you to Frazier O'Leary for working with these vendors to make these doors prizes possible for our educators. Be sure to tell them thank you if you use their services in the future!

How Are We Doing? Your Feedback Needed!

pic

Next week, FCPS will be seeking your feedback on the school division’s progress with developing our new Strategic Plan. Since last fall, thousands of students, staff, families, and community members have contributed to the strategic planning process by participating in focus groups, planning teams, community forums, and surveys. Parents/caregivers and community members will be invited to provide feedback on the work that’s been done thus far by completing a survey. Your input will help us know whether we are headed in the right direction—one that will help ensure a thriving future for every FCPS student.

Please keep an eye out for the survey link starting early next week. Visit our Strategic Planning webpage for more details.

SOCIAL MEDIA: Security Check

Are Your Accounts Set Up Correctly?

Now is a good time to check the security of your school social media accounts:

  • Facebook Page Ownership: All school Facebook pages should be owned within the FCPS business account in Meta. If you have not yet completed this process or don’t know if you have, reach out to Delaina McCormack (dnmccormack@fcps.edu).
  • Passwords: The principal and at least one other employee (such as the social media lead) should have the password for the school’s Twitter and Instagram accounts.
  • Email Addresses: The email address used on the school’s Twitter and Instagram accounts should be a shared school email address using fcps.edu email. Do NOT use a Gmail or other non-FCPS email address. See the instructions for requesting a shared social media fcps.edu email address.
  • NEW! Multi-Factor Authentication: All accounts should be protected by multi-factor authentication. See the instructions for setting up multi-factor authentication.

SOCIAL MEDIA: Rules for Blocking/Deleting

Reminder: All school social media accounts must follow the FCPS Social Media Disclaimer rules in regards to blocking/banning users or deleting/hiding user comments.

See the FCPS Social Media Disclaimer details in the School Social Media Support Manual. If you are considering blocking/banning, please reach out to ccrsocial@fcps.edu for support.

A followup email will be sent to principals and school social media leads in the next week with additional details to ensure these guidelines are being followed.

March is Social Work Month

pic

March 5-10 is National School Social Work Week. Social workers in FCPS help to prevent social, emotional, and behavioral factors from affecting a student's ability to perform at their best. Their primary goal is to remove barriers that prevent a student from fulfilling their academic potential. Our KJMS social worker is Maria Marris.  We also have a social worker intern, Brianna GradyLearn more about the role of social workers in FCPS.

Four years ago, your 8th graders were moving on to Fairfax High School.  Now, they are moving on and we want to celebrate your work with them in middle school and their work in high school.  Your current students will be doing this before you know it.  Help us keep the tradition alive for them.

We are hosting a safe and fun Fairfax All Night Grad celebration at the St. James Sports Complex and running a silent auction to help fund it.  Check it out at  https://app.galabid.com/fhsangsa2023.  Click on "Register" and you're in.  Please help our local businesses and seniors in this event.  The auction closes March 3, 2023 at 10:00 PM.

For 35 years, Fairfax High School has hosted an alcohol-free, drug-free celebration held on graduation night designed to keep our seniors safe.  This celebration, known as All Night Grad, is planned, fundraised, executed and chaperoned by parent volunteers!  High schools throughout FCPS, around the state and across the country, host ANG events with a similar purpose.

If you have any questions, please contact Susan Malkus at smalkus86@gmail.com
