Atoms Athletics and Activities (03/06 - 03/11)

Spring Season Underway!

Despite some wild weather this week our spring sports programs got into full swing this week after a great round of try-outs.  Both soccer programs got their first scrimmage under their belts against Wakefield, showing a lot of growth from last year and the girls lacrosse teams took on Osbourn, seeing many girls hit the turf for their first game ever!  Friday saw a number of scrimmages get rescheduled due to some cold, wet weather but those games will all be made up on Monday, so be sure to get out and see the work our athletes and coaches have been putting in!

GO ATOMS!!

Annandale Unified Basketball

Last Sunday Annandale HS played host to the Unified Special Olympics basketball tournament. The Atoms squad took on Woodson and Yorktown, playing hard and having a great time in the process.  Special thanks to Coach Lee and Coach Gokturk for all of their hard work!

BASEBALL, Chris Bagot:

Annandale Baseball completed their tryouts and first two weeks of practice. We are excited to start the season with 29 players in the program, including seniors Evan Newton, Ben Warth, David Sewall, Hadi Siddique, and Adam Sobalvarro. Varsity scrimmages Monday (vs Osbourn) and Friday (vs Alexandria City).  JV scrimmages Tuesday (vs Mt. Vernon) and Friday (at Alexandria City).

BOYS LACROSSE, Bill Maglisceau:

Boys’ Lacrosse is looking forward to the our first scrimmages Saturday March 4 at Hylton HS – JV 8:15am / VAR 9:30am.  The following Saturday March 11 we will be helping deliver mulch to benefit the AHS PTSA and its “ALL NIGHT GRADUATION PARTY” for the class of 2023.  If you are interested in helping out we are in need of trucks, trailers and flat beds to facilitate moving the mulch.   We also need any vehicles to help transport the players to the delivery locations.  In addition, any food/drink donations to help keep the energy up would be amazing.  The coaches appreciate your support!

TENNIS, Steven Zaret:

ORCHESTRA, Director Annie Ray:

Orchestra is excited to welcome Grammy nominated artist, Christylez Bacon, to our classes next week to kick off his residency with us! We are lucky enough to be one of the seven schools in Virginia to be awarded the 2023 Wolf Trap Educator Grant, and are using these funds to explore improvisation, blending styles and cultures of music, and creating beats with Christylez. This residency ends with a day of performing our original work and exploring arts careers at Wolf Trap. Catch our performance with Christylez at Annandale High School on May 18 at 7:00 pm in the auditorium!

TIP OF THE WEEK

As the weather starts getting warmer, a higher pollen count for Spring will be in the air. Over the counter meds such as Zyrtec, Flo-Nase and Claritin can help with itchy, watery eyes and general seasonal allergies
