Principals Corner

Dear Garfield Eagles,

Tomorrow, March 2nd, is Read Across America Day. We will celebrate with a super cozy Pajama day! We are looking forward to a very special schoolwide broadcast on GNN with a guest reader. At Garfield, we are passionate about motivating students to read and finding ways to celebrate their reading achievements every day.

Speaking of reading… We are excited to have the Garfield Book Fair open next week, March 6th-9th! Please review the flyer below and make arrangements to support the book fair during the hours indicated. Students will be given an opportunity during their library time to shop for books and create wish lists. Proceeds from the book fair directly support our school library.

This week in the Nest, Kindergarten students in Ms. Dodge’s class practiced writing phrases. It’s amazing to watch our youngest learners build on what they’ve learned this year! Mr. Geck and Ms. Cooper are teaching incredible dance moves during Music and P.E. Our annual Dance Assembly will be on Friday, March 10th at 2:00 p.m. Families are invited to attend!

Please remember that we will have a 2 hour early release tomorrow followed by our Kindergarten Orientation at 3:15 p.m. Check-in will begin promptly at 3:00 pm. We encourage families to bring their rising Kindergarten student to the orientation.

Enjoy a long, restful weekend!

Every year, absences increase in the weeks before and after spring break. Please make sure your child is in school every day until vacation starts. Our teachers will be teaching, and our students will be learning. Visit our website for more attendance resources

School Safety and Security

We take the security of our students and our staff very seriously. All exterior doors are locked during the school day. Visitors are to ring the bell at Door 1 to gain access to the main office. Every visitor/adult who enters the building is monitored.

All visitors walking into Garfield ES must ring the doorbell, state their name and purpose of the visit, and come to the office with a valid driver’s license to sign in using the Visitor Management System (VMS). The VMS will issue each visitor a sticker that should always be worn when in the building.

To maintain the momentum of instruction, items brought to the office during school hours (lunch, supplies, homework, etc.) will be held in the office for students to pick up.
