Haycock Hello 3.6.23

NHD

Dear Haycock Families,

Congratulations to our 6th grade students who represented Haycock at the District National History Day competition on Saturday.  Kudos also to our students who represented Haycock so well at the Science Olympiad. Haycock Team Apollo won overall 3rd place at the TJ Regional Tournament and will be going on to represent Haycock at the State Tournament in Charlottesville on March 25.  Well done all- we are Haycock proud of all of you!

March is a busy month.  We are looking forward to honoring our Social Worker, Ms. Haley Narins, on March 23.  She is new to Haycock this year and has done a wonderful job working with our students and families.  Please join us in celebrating her and her contributions to Haycock ES.

Our SCA has also planned a March Madness Reading Challenge. Students and staff members are encouraged to record the books they read during March.  You will see visuals of all the books we are reading around the building!

We are very excited for the upcoming Heritage Night on Thursday, March 16.  Please see information from the PTA below about this wonderful Haycock annual event returning after a few years of hiatus.  We hope to see many of you at Haycock on March 16 to honor the many cultures represented at Haycock that help to make our school the special place that it is.

With appreciation for your partnership,

Liz Beaty, Principal  embeaty@fcps.edu

Heather Boyd, AP  HABoyd@fcps.edu

Jody Delaney, AP jmdelaney@fcps.edu

Women's History Month

March is Women's History Month

Every year, March is designated Women’s History Month by presidential proclamation. The month is set aside to honor women’s contributions in American history. Heritage Night- Save the Date- March 16

Heritage Night will be on March 16th from 6pm-8pm. This is our first time having the event post-Covid and we are so excited to get it going again, as it has been one of Haycock's most popular events that celebrates the wonderful diversity of our school community.

There are many ways to participate:

-Bring a dish from your culture to share

-Set up a table in the gym to present/share about your culture

-Sing, dance, play an instrument, or perform a skit to share about your culture

-Help set up and/or clean up- it takes a lot of work to make these events happen and we would love to have your help!

Please sign up here: https://signup.com/mobileweb/2.0/vspot.html...

While we encourage everyone to participate in one of the ways above, it is most certainly not necessary! Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy learning about each other's backgrounds. This event is great for all ages/grades.

If you have any questions please email leahsocha@gmail.com

In addition, if you have a Longfellow student who is interested in volunteering, please have them sign up here:

FCPS Strategic Plan Feedback Requested

This week, FCPS will be seeking your feedback on the school division’s progress with developing our new Strategic Plan. Since last fall, thousands of students, staff, families, and community members have contributed to the strategic planning process by participating in focus groups, planning teams, community forums, and surveys. Parents/caregivers and community members will be invited to provide feedback on the work that’s been done thus far by completing a survey. Your input will help us know whether we are headed in the right direction—one that will help ensure a thriving future for every FCPS student.

Please keep an eye out for the survey link starting this week. Visit our Strategic Planning webpage for more details.

FCPS Cares

FCPS Cares

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees at Haycock ES. We love our Haycock staff members- let's tell them how we feel!
